Had to replace this Generator after just 9. hours of run time. in 17 months. It stopped running during Sandy and I was without power for 4 days with a $700 generator sitting in the garage. Took it for repairs that took 3 1/2 weeks. Had a rocker arm problem. Picked it up and started it every 2 or 3 weeks until Feb. when it wouldn't
start. The repair shop said it was probably the same problem. Parts were still warranteed but labor would cost me about $250. Labor is only covered for first year. I cut my losses and purchased a reputable brand that has a better warrantee and has much better reviews.. DEK customer service does not exist.

Having said that...the starter rope broke the second time we used it...on the first day. Quick repair and good customer service.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 07ness Be very gentle with the pull starter!
This being my first generator I have nothing to compare it with.I have replaced the pull starter once already, and when I noticed the second one wasnt recoiling properly I had to remove it and lubricate with a little grease and it works much better.I would recomend doing this, because when the cord stops going back in all the way, thats when you will come back and find the pull handle laying on the ground.Once it self destructs there is no way of repairing the starter. And as some other people mentioned parts dont come that quick.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gqvietstud Works great so far!
i purchased this as a open box item. Did not look used, but got a pretty descent price on it. Anyways, i should have tested before i left it storage in the shed for 8 months. We had a family reunion and needed power at the lake for the electrical stuff we were running, Fortunately, when i decided to assemble and use it, this bad boy cranked right up. Of course, i had to add fuel and prime it a few times. Anyways, i would highland recommend it, works great as a backup generator when you need power.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by terrapinhedgehogs Worst on the market, DO NOT BUY
This is the worst generator on the market by far! Very sad, we only got partial use out if it one time, then it broke. Unfortunately, the warranty is VERY short, and then you're stuck with a huge pile of metal junk in your shed. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. This put out too much voltage, burning out what was plugged into it if you didn't test it first, and the fuel tank is MUCH smaller than described. I could go on and on, but it looks like others have. Do your research.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RegularJoe Excellant generator, but be careful.
Generator works great. It easily handles the load of my well pump and other small motor and resistive loads in my house. Be careful on the delivery. The trucking company didn't want to provide curbside delivery, and I would have to get it off of the truck myself. I happen to have a copy of my order that said curbside delivery, and the trucking co. honored it. When preparing the generator, I added the proper amount of oil but the display continued to say "low oil". I then tried to start the generator but it wouldn't start. I called the DEK help line and found out that it is common for the low oil safety switch to initially "stick" in the closed position and disable the generator. I was then instructed to disconnect the low oil switch safety feature and run the generator until warm oil allowed the switch to dislodge. I then reconnected the low oil safety switch, and the generator works as designed.

Recoil starter requires a strong arm. Generally starts after 3 - 4 pulls. Muffler pretty much ineffective. Wouldn't want to work within a close proximity for very long. Output is good which is the primary reason for owning. Purchased at a low surplus stock price which made it very competitive with most other models in the same output range. Consider buying any generator only from a retailer who will start unit prior to purchase.
