Can I use this plug for my drier to an generator

Asked by: Chrissy
To do so would require the use of two male plugs. One to plug into the genset and another to connect to the drier receptacle. However, if one wishes to live a long, happy life, a connection of the type you asked about could bring that to an abrupt end. The previous answers to this question are good advice. Or you could also have a double throw safety switch installed. Which in the opinion of this old retired "industrial sparky" is the safest and most full proof method of all. But it requires the employ of an experienced professional... Please tell me you won't try to back-feed your distribution panel via a drier receptacle.

Hi, My wall receptacle/outlet in the kitchen is 10-50R (120/240V 50 amps) and the vent less dryer is 10-30R (220/240V 30 amps). Do you any extension cord 50 ft ? May I use your DEK universal 25 ft extension cord? Do you have any product that will meet my special needs? Many thanks in advanced.
Asked by: Jeff
If what I'm reading is correct it appears that Jeff wants to back feed his breaker panel via a dryer outlet. The proper method and the only safe type of generator hook-up is to install a double throw safety switch at or near the breaker box. To do so will require the services of a qualified electrician. To not do so could mean an inadvertent back-feed on the incoming power company feeds. Which could case your friendly lineman to no longer be friendly..

2 Male connectors

Is there a cord that has 2 male connectors? I have the female outlet on my house to hook up to the breaker box but the generator is also a female outlet.
Asked by: cmm
Male to male power cords are commonly called suicide cords. Swap out the inlet on your house to something like this as it's far safer a setup: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Reliance-Controls-30-Amp-Power-Inlet-Box-PB30/202213702

I linked it to a ten footer that came with my Transfer Switch. Works nicely and has a lighted socket to indicate current flow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to anyone who owns a portable generator. I had to use this cord when Irene hit this last month. The quality of this cord is excellent. Having the option to add two more cords to equal 75' without losing any voltage is a plus when you don't want your generator close to the house. I recommend also getting the DEK240-Volt Twist Lock Adapter with this cord. Having the option to have 6 extra outlets to your generator is always a plus. Better to have and not need then to need and not have!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GFI Bypass I have a GFI bypass switch on my breaker box. During a power outage it transfers power manually from my street utility power to my generator power. I used this cord to hook the generator up to the transfer switch and it worked perfect. Under 6500 watt load it didn't heat up or show signs of failure. I also like the lighted plug indicating the wire is live.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from home owner I purchased this cord to connect a generator to an emergency power connection. The cord is well constructed and the neon lights in the cord assist in verifying power is present. This cord was less expensive than the components to construct a cord from scratch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made, bright color easy to spot The power cable is a better length than most I have seen. For safety purposes, the generator needs to be a safe distance from the house and in a protected area. The length of this cable provides better opportunity to meet these requirements. It is also quite sturdy and should stand up to usage.
