Drills smoothly and fairly quick through various types of concrete even some with many rocks. I've drilled many holes all the way up to 3/4 in. with no problems. Drill still runs great. In certain situations I've started with smaller bits and work up to the final size. This keeps the bits cool and reduces the downward pressure you have to apply to drill. Also starting small helps reduce the possibility of cracking the concrete. Use high quality bits. Masonry bits can be expensive, but well worth the investment for fast drilling and good results. All hammer drills are noisy so wear hearing protection and safety glasses.

First hammer drill I have purchased, I selected this model because of the brand name and it was on sale. I needed about 25 holes to make into concrete piers under the house and so far there has been no problems.

I purchased this drill to mix some floor leveler because the instructions specified that a 1/2 inch variable speed drill was needed. I have a number of other dewalt products so I chose this 1/2" variable speed drill. By the third bag of floor leveler (less than 10 minutes) the drill had begun to smoke. My initial thought was that there was some oil that was burning off. By the 5th bag (less than 15 minutes of use), it let out all it's magic smoke and was done. Unfortunately, I still had three bags to mix and pour and had no slack time to get another drill. Instead I used my 3/8 inch drill for the final three bags. Maybe I got a lemon??

I bought it for the hammer drill feature. In South Florida almost every building is cement block walls and concrete floors, therefore, I'm always needing to drill into cement. This drill, as my other DeWalt corded drill is extreme smooth running, plenty of power and well balanced. I'm a little surprised that it is a keyed chuck. I guess the power and hammer feature make it a better choice. I've had the tool for two days and had to drill eight holes in concrete. I install a new air conditioner and the compressor units must be now be anchored. Fours whole for the four brackets. Then I had to installed a safety anti tip bracket for a new electric range through a tiled floor then through the concrete. It was light drilling butter. Smooth and effortlessly. If I knew of the photo contest I would have taken a picture during use . Many years ago I also burned out another DeWalt drill mixing grout. These type of drills (any brand) are not designed for the heavy load and low RPMs needed for mixing. You need the DeWalt DW130v model. It is designed for mixing heavy material with a triple gear reduction and a slow 500 RPM max. I read reviews how some seem to burn them up, even the replacements. Again just because the instructions read 1/2 drill for mixing, it must be the right type. The second reason is the AC power. A too long of an extension cord and undersized wire gauge will cause a voltage drop so low that it will burn up any electric motor. AC motors love high voltage. When you use that low cost 100' orange cord at 16 AWG, it will cause too much of a voltage drop causing the motor to overheat. Should use not more than a 50 foot with 14 gauge wire. If you need a longer cord then you need to bump up to a cord with 12 gauge wire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drill I had difficulty drilling into concrete block with an old variable speed drill. Did some research and decided to try a hammer drill. Went to Home Depot and with an associate's assistance, I selected this DeWALT 1/2in VARIABLE SPEED REVERSIBLE HAMMER DRILL. It has a switch that allows you to go from regular to hammer, and it made the job very easy. The attachable handle and depth guide is easy to add, and for the price I paid it is a great value. For the average homeowner who needs a drill for household projects, you can't go wrong. I recommend this corded drill over battery operated. I expect it to last for many years.

Its smooth and quite. It comes with a nice long power cord which is good because I don't have to use an extension. Best of all I liked the price. Everywhere I do work has power so I am in no need of drills that are battery operated so this drill was easily 2-3 times cheaper than the battery powered ones. And that's good for my pocket book. All in all I give it a 5 star rating
