I have done several remodel jobs that had old tile that needed to be removed and new tile installed. The removal of the old tile was never a problem, however, the remaining thin set was always an issue. Well, not anymore. The job had approximately 110 sq. ft. of tile, it took me about 30 minutes to completely and successfully remove the old thin set. I will say that the dust is very fine and you will need to change your vac filter a lot more than normal (I had to 3 times during this job). the vacuum port I would estimate collected 95% of the dust produced, great job DeWalt!

The tool is very powerful yet is easy to handle. The dust shroud works well but you still need to tent the space to reduce the dust fallout. The diamond wheel that comes with the tool works very well and removes all the thin set left over after removing the ceramic tile. A 6x10 space was done in about 1 hour certainly less cost then removing and replacing the underlayment. You do need to keep the tool flat to avoid gouging the underlayment but this is easy to learn while using the tool. Have done 3 floors so far with a single wheel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mouse frustrating product when the shround is not on
purposely bought this online for the shroud attachment. But when the shroud is off, it does not come with a guard... need to buy this separately and no one sells it in store. Also, as a 5 inch grinder, good luck trying to find a 5 inch wheel... either 4.5 if you are lucky or 4 inch which is too small.
Dewalt should include a guard for a small additional price.

I used this Grinder to remove thinset on my bathroom floor. Kit included 5" Diamond Turbo Wheel, dust shroud, hose connector, and bag. I was able to remove the thin set on concrete floor. Only dust that escaped was when grinder wasn't flush w/ surface. I connected the grinder to my shop vacuum with two hoses thru the window to keep the vac outside. Worked like a charm!
The only problem I had was trying to remove thinset along the walls. Opening the edge guard defeated the vacuum capability and filled the room with concrete dust.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SydKnee Works Well for Removing Paint from CMU Blocks
In preparation for repair, for I used it to remove epoxy paint from concrete blocks on a basement wall. Dust was a big concern. I used duct tape to attach a hose to the fitting supplied in the kit. As shipped, the dust shield on the grinder is not effective. I had to remove washers and use some washers I had to adjust the height of the diamond grinding cup so it was located just below the height of the "hula skirt" around the perimeter of the dust shield. After I did that, the dust shield worked really well if I was sure to keep it pressed tightly against the concrete block wall. NOTE: Empty the shop vac often. If you are grinding concrete indoors, you need a HEPA filter and a (wood shop) dust collector running on high speed ....or be prepared for much cleaning and dusting the entire house afterward! One little slip where the hula skirt leaves the surface and the diamond grinding cup kicks up a dust storm! Another NOTE: the store Ad needs to be clear on exactly what the customer will receive for their purchase.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Joel This product perfomed as advertised
I used this to remove thinset off of a 14' by 14' concrete floor after tile removal. This tool works just like it is advertised. This tool does require a fine touch when removing thinset, because you can gouge the concrete floor if not carefull. After a little practice it was easy. The only draw back is that you must have a decent shop vac, and get ready to clean the filter because the dust is real fine.

I struggled with scraping adhesive off my concrete floor after removing the linoleum. After 4 days and minimal progress, I bought the Dewalt Surface grinder with dust shroud. I was immediately impressed at how easy it was to use and the results were amazing. I was able to remove more in 2 hours than I did in 4 days. On top of that, the dust was contained to a minimum.
