14.4-Volt Ni-Cad XRP 1/2 in. Cordless Drill/Driver Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from DeWalt XRP NiCad beats LiIon I’ve owned the previous DeWalt 14.4 XRP cordless drill for 9 years…with the original batteries. And after 9 years, one battery failed to take a charge and it’s dead. Not bad for 9 years. I prefer NiCad batteries to Li-Ion for many reasons. Obviously, the chemistry is very different between the two battery types. But for long term use, NiCad is a better battery. I’m a do-it-yourself home remodeler and have remodeled two bathrooms, a bedroom and two basements. From studs, to drywall, to cabinets, the drill and batteries never failed. I’ve even used the DeWalt to drill into concrete, which was a bad idea, but it worked. NiCad batteries have better storage and charging characteristics. They will run until they are dead, fading out at the end. Once they are completely dead only then did I charge them. This gave the batteries a full charge and longer run times. NiCad batteries can also be charged close to 1000 times. Li-Ion batteries have protection circuitry built in and they will all of a sudden stop if they overheat and get stressed. And you can only charge Li-Ion batteries a couple of hundred times. Also, Li-Ion batteries should be stored with a 50% charge. If they are stored for any length of time at 100%, it will shorten the life of the battery. Also deep-discharging Li-Ion batteries will shorten their life as well. When my final battery dies on my DeWalt I will be purchasing another DeWalt XRP NiCad battery drill. Almost a decade of proven performance with DeWalt and NiCad has me sold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Powerful for it's size. Easy to use and durable. I am writing more because this review states I did not write enough. They want me to review this and then they put parameters on what I have to say. This does not make me want to fill anymore of these out. Ugh!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1st DeWalt = Amazing We've previously made do with Black and Decker drills. But with a home purchase, we decided to upgrade. This drill is solidly constructed and a joy to use. It has a dial setting for drill bits and screws. You can then adjust the amount of resistance that the drill will experience before giving out (avoiding stripped screws). This feature is great. You can also choose between 3 different speeds. It even has an led light that shines on the spot you're drilling, which is really helpful when you're trying to put in or remove screws in a dark area (like the inside of a closet). The DeWalt bits (for drilling and screwing) are plentiful, well constructed and fit solidly. They're all hexagrams so there won't be sliding (our B&D drill had cylindrical bits...which would get stuck and slide out of the drill). Lastly, the charger is quick and it comes with TWO batteries, a nice surprise. Even if you're looking for a drill to keep around for odds and ends, I'd still recommend this. It's well worth the money and will last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad. Good machine for every day jobs. Case is a bit awkward to open and get all components back into.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 14.4 volt ni-cad xrp cordless drill driver Fast delivery before the holidays as it was a gift. The ni-cad battery seems to the best choice in cold weather climates as it is more stable. Previously owned the Dewalt drill-driver and it worded for 15 years with no problems. The batteries finally would not hold a charge but the drill driver still worked well even after a number of years using it in construction and heavy use. If this drill-driver lasts as long, it is an excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dewalt cordless drill No feedback yet; this is a Christmas gift. Although Dewalt products have an excellent reputation; we'll see!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is heavy duty Heavy duty work horse. I stress the word heavy. I have the regular duty 14.4 volt as well and it performs very well. It is a lot lighter to hold up. I will recommend this drill screw gun, but give some thought to the new DeWalt 20 volt lithium.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It doesn't last Works fine until it breaks. Bought drill, returned in THREE TIME. Broke every time after about 60 days. Dont waste your money, buy Ryobi.
