Cross cutting 4x4?

Would this work for cutting 4x4s to length?
Asked by: Scotty4991
If it is a standard 4x4, than yes... if it is a treally 4x4 (4 inches by 4 inches), then no, you would have to do a flip cut or find a table saw with a 12 inch blade

I'm a carpenter in the building trades and we use this and two other Dewalt saws on a daily basis. This saw is better than my table saw that I have in my garage/shop, and I'm thinking of replacing it with a Dewalt. This saw is sturdy and easy to use.

I had to give up my contractor's table saw when I moved into a smaller house. I soon discovered that I could not accurately rip oak for some replacement cabinet doors I was building, without a table saw. At the time, I had my DeWalt palm sander in for repairs, and when I went into the shop, I saw this compact table saw. I immediately determined it would fill the void. I wouldn't use it for large panel cutting, but my days of building big furniture pieces are past. For rip sawing and small resawing, this saw is perfect: The geared rip fence is very accurate, and having all the attachments fit inside the frame make it very easy to move from place to place.

I've had my saw for a few months and so far, I am very happy with it, with a few additions. In my opinion, the only fault I found is the original miter guage. It's cheap, light weight and difficult to accurately adjust the angle. The first thing I did was purchase a POWERTEC 71005 Deluxe Table Saw Miter Gauge and added a 1" x 4" wood fence. It is absolutely impossible to initally loosen the arbor screw using the two wrenches. It took a 1/2 inch drive 18 inch long breaker bar AND a BFP to loosen this nut. I had to tilt the blade 45 degrees and wiggle the breaker bar with a 23mm socket onto the nut, shich is tricky. Luckly I have a complete 1/2" drive metric set. I'm sure the next time I have to remove the arbor screw it will (hopefully) be easier. There are few other additions I recommend to make your saw more useful. A Leecraft DW-2 Zero-Clearance Table Saw Insert for DeWalt Model DW744 and DW746 zero clearance. It DOES fit the DW745. A feather bar for close ripping. Two high quality blades. A 40 tooth general purpose blade to replace the original 25 tooth DeWalt blade, and an 80 tooth blade for finer cuts on moulding and cutting plywood to reduce the possibility of splintering the wood on the bottom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect saw Excellent saw. Best portable job saw on the market and for the professional contractor. Stalk blade cuts like a Diablo but doesn't last like one. Fence is completely solid with no play and simple locking. Did have to adjust the adjustable locking device for the fence to be totally square to the saw blade but took .5 seconds. Miter gage works great. Would definitely recommend before a pricy rigid or Bosch considering it has the same cutting power and consistancy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-around awesome table saw I'm a hobbyist woodworker and love this saw. The fence is incredibly accurate and, thanks for the rack and pinion, stays accurate, even down to the fine level. The fence and blade were square out of the box. There's enough power to cut hardwood perfectly fine and the stock blade works well. Built a cart and mounted the saw on top to bring it up to a comfortable height and back it up to my work table as an outfeed. Couldn't be happier.

When a contractor finished remodeling a spare room, was very impressed with his larger version, cutting the wood flooring was precise, was impressed. Haven't really used it yet, but is a necessity for any do-it yourselfer, gives a clean, true cut!

I followed a youtube suggestion and put some tape on the front parts of the fence bracket to tilt it backwards to make it square. otherwise out of the box is great. 2) if you are creating a table to sit the saw in, with outfeed and side support - only the back legs of the table saw have height adjustment mechanism on them, the front has the round rubber feet that can not be moved up or down in height. so you need to get the table top height bang on, otherwise you will have to shim it all once you add the saw. otherwise I really like the saw so far. The rack and pinion fence adjustment cant be beat. miter gauge is a bit sloppy and wiggles, but seems that at this price range they all do. I have made several projects with the saw already and have no intention of returning it. (cannot say the same for a $130 ryobi and porter cable that I tried before this one).
