Customer Questions & Answers

how wide of a board will the 10" cut? If the board is to wide do you flip it to complete the cut and is it accurate?

Asked by: dam7
It will cut 2x6 dimensional lumber laid flat. If you want to cut a wider board accurately, use a table saw or circular saw.

15 Amp 10 in. Compound Miter Saw is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Saw with Minor Limitations The DW713 is a solid, accurate 10-inch compound miter saw. It’s a basic saw with no bells or whistles. But it’s well built with 11 precise preset miter settings at 0, ±10, ±15, ±22.5, ±31.62, and ±45 degrees. The miter detents are firm and definite, so you can be confident that the cut won’t be “a little off” when you move the table and blade to any of the preset miter positions. A vernier scale is provided for fractional angle settings. The saw is fully assembled when you take it out of the box. I checked the 0-degree miter setting as well as the 0-degree and 45-degree bevel stops first thing. All were right on the money. But the miter detent plate and bevel end points can be adjusted if you decide you need to tweak things a little bit. It can cut pieces as large as 4x4 and 2x6 dimensional lumber, which covers all of my needs. The saw comes with a wrench that can be used to change the blade and turn the bolts that secure the miter detent plate. A spindle lock button can be used to prevent the blade from rotating while using the wrench. The wrench is stowed in the saw’s base when not in use. The dust collection bag is virtually useless so you should use a shop-vac with the saw. Any DW713 made after 2012 is a Type 2, meaning that it won’t accept the DeWalt laser guide or worklight that fit on the Type 1. The user’s manual has some errors. For example, the manual says that the saw can accept Work Support Extension DW7080, but it can’t. The manual says the saw can use the Adjustable Length Stop DW7051 but it depends on the DW7080, so no luck there, either. The manual says the saw can accept Crown Molding Fence DW7084. But both DeWalt and third-party vendor advertising suggest that the DW713 can’t use this fence. That is, the lists of saws that can use this fence don’t include the DW713. But it’s my guess that the saw might be able to use it. There are metric M8-1.25 tapped holes at the ends of the base where these fences might be attached. These threads are the same as used by the left side fence clamping knob. The manual says the saw can accept Clamp DW7082. But it apparently can’t. None of the manual problems is a show stopper for me. If you want to add a sacrificial fence to the saw you might have a problem. The left fence has two holes that you can use to screw it into place. The right fence has no holes. You’ll have to drill your own if a clamp won’t do. Who knows how that might affect the warranty? Using double-sided tape to hold a sacrificial fence might work. The bevel angle gauge is awkward to read and use. The flaws in the manual aren’t problems for me, and the shortcomings of the fence and bevel gauge are minor problems. The DW713 is a top quality 10-inch compound miter saw made by DeWalt, a manufacturer with a great reputation. You probably can’t find a better value than the DW713.

Biggest issue was that the saw was not square out of the box and the fence was not flat. Tried to make some adjustments but just could not get everything lined up. Motor seemed plenty strong and the overall weight of the saw is in line with other brands. Would also like to see a few more features. Home Depot made the return easy though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from i AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS TOOL FROM DEWALT I am very happy with this tool. Is very acurate and no matter how many times I change the angle of cut always stays in the right position, not even 1 degree of change. Its very light when you have to move it around and considering the price can be compare to some professional tool of double or triple price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but missing left side fence, dust bag and blade wrench. Product runs well and has no trouble screaming to life- would recommend to anyone from homeowner to pro, BUT... BIG disappointment- The saw didn't come with the left side sliding fence for crown, no dust bag and no blade wrench. The fence is available from the manufacturer, but it's $40 for a piece of aluminum and a wing nut!!!!! Huge let down here and the store can't help because they're not a common items. I can deal without a bag or wrench, but no fence stinks. Trying to determine if I can make my own out of wood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Precise and accurate This saw is both precise and accurate. I can cut the same cut multiple times and it's on the mark each time. I originally bought the Ridgid 10" miter because it was $30 cheaper, but ended up returning it because the cuts just were not accurate. I'm very pleased with this tool - it does everything it claims to do and it does it well. The only thing the saw doesn't have that I would like is a clamp. Without a built in clamp I find that my own clamps sometimes get in the way when doing bevel cuts (especially when the board is shorter). Therefore, you have to play around a bit to get the piece clamped down properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Saw Bought the Rigid 10" miter and returned it. Couldn't adjust the laser to 100% accuracy. Bought the Dewalt and love the size, quality and out of the box accuracy. I have rehabbed over 1200 houses and own dozens of power tools. There is no substitute for quality no matter if you use a tool 1x a year or everyday. Dewalt, Milwaukee and Bosch want to make a better tool, price is secondary. Hitachi, Rigid & Porter Cable want to make inexpensive tools where price is first and quality second. If price is an issue wait and buy the Dewalt it's well worth the extra cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible value for less than $225.00 I last purchased a Makita chop saw for $300 in 1987 ($600 in 2016 dollars). I did not expect a DeWalt chop saw that costs less than $225 to be more than a cheap backup to my Makita chop saw. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I started using the DeWalt chop saw. It is well made and it has more features than my Makita chop saw. It seems to be a durable, well designed and well made chop saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless performance! Does what it is designed to do! Yes it needed a tiny miter adjustment but that's not unusual for a saw in this price range. Once calibrated cut perfect miters on anything I fed it. Trimed out some 3" thick Osage and black walnut blocks for carving inlays with no problem. Cheaper saws I've used struggle with this 30 year old air dried Osage. Great saw and I love dewalt service!
