After reading countless reviews, I decided to buy this saw. I am soooo pleased with it! The XPS light is amazing -- very quick to line-up cuts, and no longer have to get eye-level with the blade to make sure I'm being accurate. The belt-drive and motor configuration keeps it out of the way when making cuts on thicker wood, and the sawdust collection (when hooked up to the shopvac) is very effective. I used a speed square to double check the settings for 90 and 45 degree cuts, it was spot on with no need to adjust. I am now looking for projects around the house just so I have an excuse to use this saw.

The DWS780 had the best reviews overall, but at $599 by itself, it seemed more than I really wanted to spend. My first miter saw was really a cheap one, that was at best a chop saw only really good for wall framing. I have a lot of trim work to do, so I wanted a double-beveling, sliding saw. My old saw had a laser, and it never was remotely accurate. Looking at other new saws, I realized that lasers seem to never really be accurate, and people complain about them constantly. I had settled on a cheaper brand that Home Depot carries, based on online reviews/information. The next day, I went to my local store, and checked out each saw in person. The green one I thought I wanted had a very rough slider, and lots of plastic parts. The orange one had lots of reviews saying the blade tended to wobble. While I normally like that brand's tools, I took all those reviews seriously, and skipped that saw. I got to the end of the row of display models, and saw that they had an in-store offer of the DWS780 with a free stand. You had your choice of the fixed-leg stand, or the rolling stand. I already knew that I liked the rolling stand, because besides having wheels, it is the only one I saw that had a hydraulic assist. A saw and stand together can get rather heavy, and I am getting older, so having a little help lifting the saw and stand was a great feature in my mind. I also liked the fact that the Dewalt DWS780 has a gear/belt drive, instead of a direct drive off the motor like all the others had. All the reviews on the DWS780 mentioned how great the LED was, versus a cheap laser. The slider on the DWS780 was as smooth as butter, and just by feel, you could tell that they had put better quality into its construction than the competitors had. Even though it was more money, I decided to bite the bullet and get the DWS780. They only had one saw stand in the rack, and the box was open, but I trusted Home Depot to have made sure it was okay and all there. As I wheeled my saw and stand to the checkout, several other customers passed me and commented how they wished they had that saw, and how I'd made a good choice. I got home, and started assembly of the stand, only to discover that the three bags of hardware included was missing. I called the store, and they offered to exchange it for the display model they had. So, I repacked this heavy beast back up, and drive back out to the store. The guy that works in the tool section was very apologetic, and understanding of my irritation with having to make a trip back to exchange the stand. He looked around, and found me a stand that was way up at the top of the shelves, still unopened, and exchanged it for the one I had. I got home, assembled my stand (all complete this time!), and fastened the saw to it. The saw I got was as perfect as the one they had on display, and I could not be happier. Trust me, if you want a really well made saw that will do it all, and last for years, this is the one you want, and really is worth the extra money! Thanks Dewalt, and Home Depot!

The saw is amazing however the stand came without the wheels, the hardware kit, as well as the extension rollers. After contacting the company about the problem, I was told that they would be sending out a new stand. It's been over three weeks and I'm still waiting on the new stand. My neighbor saw the box in my trash and stopped by to see if I liked the stand. He stated that he purchased the same stand from the Home Depot store location near us and the hydraulic lifting mechanism didn't work. He ended up with a different brand of stand.

It's a great combo as long as you can roll the saw to where you need it, this saw and stand are ready to take on the toughest jobs. If you need to carry the setup (upstairs?) then the lightweight stand may be a better option.

The light for aligning my cut mark works really well and is easier to see than a laser, which is not as precise as you might think because you end up looking at a sparkly red line, hard to look at closely.

No surprises, worked flawlessly as I had expected. Some have reported that the XPS light was of no help but I must admit I really appreciated the addition.
