Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rowurboat the best on the market by far
this was a birthday/Christmas gift from my family. I could tell when I was unpacking it from the box this was a hefty machine. after just finishing my first project with it, I can now say that it was a fantastic choice. the two speed feature allowed me to avoid sanding almost anything, including mahogany. and the add on folding tables drastically reduces snipe. time will tell if the blades last. but so far, I can attest to the claim that this is the best porrable planer on the market.

Still very happy. Ive read a lot of reviews here when researching this and other products, but I rarely write them. So i wanted to share some things that aren't being mentioned: 1- lookup a byrd shelix head. You can buy a replacement cutterhead to you can use a spiral cutterhead instead of the 3 knife cutterhead. It isn't cheap, but its an option. The knives can flip on this but they are not invincible. Nothing is. If you're running a lot of reclaimed and dirty wood through, they dull faster. Clean throughly, metal brush and then shop vac your rough stuff and use a metal detector on barnwood. And be prepared to dull blades quickly. I'd estimate 350 -500 BF (not linear foot) on nice clean stuff from specialty lumber yard. Running it conseratively on a good dust collector 4" (not a shop vac). And cleaned, metal free barnwood well less than half that. A lot of guys skip plane (1 pass) or hit or miss plane their barnwood and leave the roughness there. 2- clean the table, wax it, clean the rollers regularly. If its feeding poorly, clean the table with metal cleaner, and then use a nice paste wax like johnsons. This is crucial. It will make a bigger difference than you think. 3- buy the dewalt mobile base and wings. Totally worth it. Sometimes other large sites that being with A sell the package with thesefor less than home depot. HD may price match.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CellarDoor Excellent Planer for Professional Results
I work primarily with rough-sawn lumber making a variety of custom furniture products. I purchased this planer in addition to a jointer to be able to work with high quality and highly figured rough sawn lumber. Working namely with Walnut, Maple, Cherry, Bubinga, and Lacewood, I have sent all of these woods through this planer with excellent results.
The wings are an absolute must if you don't buy the X version, and given the weight of this unit, I highly recommend buying a mobile stand for the unit or permanently mounting it. This weight is a result of high quality and a robust unit.
The fan on this unit is extremely powerful, no special dust collection required, I just have a vaccuum hose running off the chip ejection port straight into a garbage can with a filter installed in a cutout in the lid.
The only downside to the unit is the straight blades, as soon as you hit a knot of decent size, you'll be left with very small lines left in future wood due to the blades hitting this knot, nothing some light sanding with 220 won't take out. other companies do make helical replacement cutter heads which I've yet to try but would solve this issue.
There are several safety features built into the machine that prevent you from over feeding it or stop the the roller feed if you're trying to remove too much wood on wider stock, but this can be an issue as then the cutter will cause some snipe where it stopped; moral of the story is to know the hardness of your wood and don't try to take too much off in one pass.
I hope to try the helical head in this unit soon and will update my review.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ReelSweetGrady The product is easy to set-up, use and produces a high quality finish
The Dewalt DW735 13-inch thickness planer was very easy to set-up. The 2-speed cutting action allows for quick dimensional sizing and a high quality final surface finish. The chip exhaust system is very well designed and allows easy collection of chips into either dust collection system or simple enclosed bucket/pail unit.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Billybehr This machine is a beast!
DeWalt lives up to it's name again. This planer, for noncommercial equipment, is a good buy for the money. I have had a handful of planers throughout the years and this one works like a champ. The blades are easy to get to to change. The blower removes 90% of the chips as it goes through. In fact, it even provides so much force my dust collector hose relaxes when I turn the planer on. My favorite feature has to be what I call the "dial a depth". Rotate it to the desired depth, crank down the head and it repeatedly gives me the dimension every time. Well worth the money.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DocterJig Great Upgrade from my old 2-blade model
This unit is way better than my old De Walt 2-blade planer. The finish comes out smoooooooooth even on the fast-cut setting. And the fan-driven chip extractor delivers chips to the next county. Now I need a bag. No discernible snipe either, a real problem with the old unit. Some complain about weight, but lifting/placing it is a one-man job for me. Compare this unit to the entry level non-portable planers that weigh in at 600 lbs plus! I did make a stand w/ rollers on one end it for easy moving, yet stable. Seems to have plenty of power, but not sure how it compares to the 220 volt models. Big advantage of not having to wire in another 220 volt outlet.

We are strong believers in excellent products. My husband and I have a small renovation business and we have also rebuilt 2 homes of our own. Dewalt is the way to go for us. We have never been dissapointed in the product! We are now in the middle of the renovation of our home as we speak and have used everyone of our Dewalt tools. We have used the planer for barn board from an old school house built between 1908 and 1918. It was going to be burnt down, so we decided to put a piece of history in our new home. We have not yet finished our project but we are very satisfied with the outcome of every job that has been done with a Dewalt product!
