How thin can you plane boards with this item?

I have some nice scrap pieces that I need to take down for a project. The scraps are about 3 feet long and 9/16 in. thick. Many are bowed and I will probably have to take them down to about half that thickness.

Answer:
The minimum that the planer can be set is 1/8 inch. I would be leary of anything less than 1/4" although if run at the slower feed speed you might be able to get the 1/8" throughout the full length to be planed.

Answer:
Yes, you can plane to your target thickness you mention. There are preset hard stops on this planer that are set by simply turning a knob and the minimum stop is 1/8", that said you have the ability to adjust below the 1/8" by changing the stop adjustment screw setting but probably not a good practice. Usually there is sound reasoning as to why they have preset limits on these machines.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NEVER, BUT NEVER BUY! I have used this machine a few times and it burned out! I took it to get fixed and the techs told me that this machine motor was a joke... I sadly drop $650 USD to the garbage, you can't even buy the replacement motor for this machine!!! :-( I really feel so upset. September 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by cant sharpen blades Paid 150.00 for carbide blades but after sharpening for the first time they are not long enough to cut the screws for the mounting bar hit the product. you will need to buy new blades every time. June 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Thickness Planer Great product for the money! The only things that would make it better are being able to adjust the in and out feed tables easier and the addition of a Helical cutter head option. June 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice planner for the $$ Smooth, powerful and of high quality. Planner worked as described by previous owner feed back. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very sharp We purchased rough cut southern yellow pine boards to use for our bathroom floor. The planer arrived quickly and no issues. It was very easy to put together and worked as described. The floor turned out beautiful and we are very happy with our purchase. February 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good planer This planer left agreat finish. On hardwoods the bed became sticky with use and needed to be cleaned and waxed to avoid sticking. I love the two speed. I would buy this planer again. February 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely pleased with results I had been wanting a thickness planer and spent a great deal of time researching my options. I'm not a professional, so I couldn't justify spending a ridiculous amount of money, but I still wanted a quality machine. That said, I am very pleased with the quality and performance of this planer. I had it out of the box and planing in minutes. I've since used it on a variety of hardwoods (even maxing out its capacity of 13 inches), and have found it produced excellent results, eliminating hours of sanding. I have had some issues with snipe, and while a certain amount is inevitable, it can be reduced with technique. It is well worth the extra money for this package which gives you the extra knives and the tables. It is considered portable, but at 100 lbs this is probably not that practical for most (in terms of using on the job site). I have a very small shop, and can move this planer around relatively easily. I definitely recommend a dust/chip collection system. It is not just a good idea - it really is almost imperative - as this planer creates an enormous amount of chips and shoots them all over your shop without such a system. I really have no complaints - I love this tool! March 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Meets expectation for value and function I knew that I was purchasing an entry level planer. Needed a unit that would help me reduce finish time and clean up some minor surface blemishes. Have about 15 hours on the unit and blades are still in good shape. I purchase wood that is semi finished. and don't need to take more than .016" off wood that is between 700 and 1200 on the Janka scale. This unit performs well for my needs. Snipe is minimal, footprint is small and it is portable (100lbs) Remembering that it is about as powerful as a high end Vacuum (15amps) cleaner, it performs very well. For the price I am very pleased with the quality and functionality although the instruction manual is a little clugie. What swayed me to purchase through Home Depot was the price point, no cost shipping and the six months same as cash program. October 25, 2013
