Is there a Dewalt (or other brand) lithium SAWZALL that will work with this charger and battery?

Asked by: gogirl
NO. When Dewalt went to Lithium Ion batteries, they went to 20 volts and a different plug in arrangement. The only possibility would be if one of the aftermarket suppliers make one in the Lithium. I have not found one at this point in time.. brian

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Combo I have 4 other DeWalt cordless 18-volt drills that I have had for years, but the common point of failure that I have seen has been the NiCD batteries. I bought this drill to try out the 18v Lion system and so far I have been impressed. This drill is on the small side and weighs substantially less than my other DeWalt drills but has the same power and better run time making it easier to use. The Lion batteries themselves weigh quite a bit less than the NiCD versions but seem to have the same or greater power capacity. Another definite plus is the fact that these Lion batteries fit all of my other 18-volt tools, so if this battery chemistry proves to be better then it is easy to replace failed NiCD batteries with Lion. One last thing, the charger included in this kit will charge all of the other DeWalt batteries NiCD or Lion from 7.2v on up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More power than any other compact 18 volt drill I have the latest drills from Makita, Milwaukee, and DeWalt on my trucks and quickly get an idea of how much power they provide on the job and how well they hold up to heavy duty drilling. The DeWalt 3-speed models are the ultimate in power but when you want a compact drill there are only 2-speed models available. This is where the 20 volts provided by the lithium-ion battery on the DCD760 make a noticeable difference in power. I can easily drill a 4" hole in thick plywood with this drill and if I use on of the modern big gullet hole cutters like the Blue Boar I can even go to 6 inches without bogging down the drill or overheating the motor. This compact drill will out drive the compact drills we have from Makita and Milwaukee. Only the Milwaukee 2602 with the full size battery even comes close in terms of power - both torque and ability to carry a load while cutting a hole in tough material. Torque specs alone are very misleading as it can take a minute or more to bore a hole and the 1/2 size batteries are not able to deliver full power the entire time but will cut out with the thermal override protection to keep the battery from bursting into flames. The Makita and Milwaukee and Hitachi drills we have are especially sensitive and the thermal protection can cause them to cut out continuously and double the amount of time it takes to bore a hole. Drill chuck is the best of any drill you can buy. It locks on tight and does not come loose even when drilling in masonry. Hold even the smallest drill bits and the higher RPM provided makes drilling in metal a lot faster. Dewalt batteries are larger and heavier than competitors' but they also hold a lot more of a charge and drill a lot longer and they have a 2-year warranty - twice as long as most. Charging is medium fast. Makita charges its batteries faster but then recommends a 60 minute cool down period so the net effect is the same while Makita's approach has often resulted in premature battery failure. DeWalt gearbox is not the smoothest at shifting but it is without a doubt the strongest. The steel construction adds a little to the weight but makes for a much more durable drill - again a problem with the Makita's in particular. DeWalt drills have the vents on the side so when you find yourself pressing down on the top of the drill motor to add pressure to the cutting teeth of a bi-metal hole saw, you do not block the cooling vents for the drill motor. Older Makita drills did the same but not the current models. The carry case is downright crude but it works and it has good clamps to keep it closed. A small satchel with pockets for drill bits and the like would be a good upgrade. This lithium-ion powered cordless drill like any other benefits greatly from using modern hole saws like the Blue Boar TCT hole cutters that need 1/3 the torque to cut about 10 times faster. Lots more holes per battery charge, lots bigger holes with any drill, and less wear and tear on the drill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dad's Favorite Christmas Gift The DeWalt 18-Volt Cordless Lithium-Ion Compact Drill was a Christmas gift for my father who had been drooling over the DeWalt 18V Lith for at least a month, if not more. Needless to say, figuring out the perfect gift was a piece of cake. My father is mid-60's and loves his tools. In the past 25 years he has gutted, rennovated, and re-wired my childhood home. And he's worn down a lot of power tools during that time. As he's gotten older, those few extra pounds in a hand-held tool make an incredible difference. From what he's told me in the past month that he's used his new toy, he loves it. He doesn't need to take as many breaks between projects and the grip is comfortable for him. Hopefully this means my childhood home will be around a few more years. No, this will not last you several hours and it will wear down a little more quickly than your older model non-ltih drill. But if you need it for 2-3 hrs of juice to get projects around the house done, you'll be satisfied. Especially if you're older and have mild arthritis, it's a blessing (from what I've been told). Me? I inherited his older model 14.4V ... and I make my boyfriend do all the work. I think I'll have to get myself a new lith drill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DeWalt Lithium This tool packs plenty of power for it's weight. It's not lightweight at all but compared to my old Makita, it's lighter. The included charge base charges the batteries quickly. My favorite feature of the Lithium Oxide battery system is the fact that it retains it's charge in storage where NiCads leak off after a few days. The controls are easy to use and it feels well balanced. The little light that illuminates what you are working on is nice, but I could live without it. The reverse button operates easily. There are two things I'm not as happy with. First the chuck is difficult to lock positively onto a drill or driver bit. I find it falling out a lot when I reverse. The chuck grip is hard to hold tight enough to make sure the bit is locked in. It needs to be more rubbery and less hard plastic. The second thing is the way the variable speed works. It feels sort of jerky, not smooth like older units I've used. Very hard to start off very slowly when driving a screw or starting to drill a hole in hard metal. Other than those two things, this is a really good tool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drill This will be a Christmas gift for my husband but he has this drill at work and loves it. He has had to bring it home on occasion as his old drill passed away. He said he likes the charge time, the small compact size for getting into tight spaces and that Dewalt is a respected name, with a great warranty. Our daughter works for a furniture manufacturer and she said that Dewalt is what they use in the assembly area for the chair backs they have to intall. They have used other brand name drills but had to replace them so they only buy Dewalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A drill that is fast and powerful! My wife bought this for me as an early Christmas gift, one I will always remember. This is my first cordless drill I have ever owned am very pleased with how long the battery lasts and how powerful it is. My father recently purchased a ridgid 18 volt compact drill. For fun we wanted to see which drill would drive a two inch screw into a 2 x 4 first? The dewalt torched the ridgid!
