i have some 3/8 bits....is there an adapter or some way i could use those bits with this drill?

Asked by: tja1
The chuck will take up to one half inch. No adapter required for anything less, including 3/8 inch.

Sorry for my very layman question. Is it only to be used as a screwing drill, or it can be used for drilling holes as well. If so, in what materials?

Asked by: chag
It depends on the hole. What kind of hole you are drilling. And there's s lot more to it than that. You need to be fully aware first and have all the right kind of equipment and safety procedures well documented. And the correct approach. It's not something to be taken lightly. One does not learn it overnight. Some people spend their entire lifetimes on their technique. You might want to take a class first or at least watch a few youtube videos of some pros in action. Then carefully consider what type of hole you plan on drilling and if not feeling up to the job, seek some professional help. It maybe well worth it in the end. Compared to ending up in the emergency ward, and scarred for life. Take my word for it. Been there done that. Don't let a nickel hold up a dollar. A penny well spent is worth more than a gold piece in hand. To infintity....and beyond !! Understand ?

The second speed went out in less than 6 months. I didn't have time to get it taken in for warranty until after the first year, but didn't think it would be a problem because it had a "3 year warranty" - which I found out is a scam. They make you pay $99 to look at the drill and see what the issue is, then if it happens to be a defective part (which the lady at the service department said "never happens") then they would refund the money and repair or replace it. She at least was honest enough to tell me not to bother wasting my money and I might as well buy a new one for the same price. Used to recommend this brand until this happened.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dewalt 20v I was super stoked when I got my new drill in, I've been a fan of the Ryobi 20v for a while. But, I was recently putting a porch together when it went dead and the batteries wouldn't charge. My helper had a mini dewalt 20v and I used it and loved it and knew I had to have one. With the Ryobi, I'd have to charge the battery every time before use. The dewalt I've charged once and put away and got out and used on numerous times with only one charge! I'm truly satisfied.

I owned and operated a locksmith and safe servicing business for almost 20 years, and exclusively used Milwaukee tools for commercial use. But now that I do not have my business any longer, I do not need commercial-grade tools. So I decided to save a few dollars and picked-up this DeWalt drill/driver set for "around the house" repairs and projects. The first thing I liked was how small it was. Pretty lightweight considering it is a 20V drill/driver. I also liked the small LED light that was activated whenever the trigger is depressed. Another great feature was the small carrying bag that it came with. Much better than the larger, plastic cases they used to come with. The bag is small and pretty much fits the drill, the charger, two batteries, and maybe a few other small things. But that's fine. The bag is for this drill/driver kit. DeWalt did not promise us a large all-purpose tool bag. One thing I didn't like too much was that the LED light stayed ON for 20 seconds after the trigger was depressed. It should shut OFF after 5 or 10 seconds, in my opinion. But no biggie. Not sure how the drill will hold-up after time in use. But if they let me update this page, I'll do a follow-up review. So far "Me Likes".

I try my best not to turn to this drill when I'm working but I have on occasion. It's really a great drill for the price. It was purchased to be used for small projects and it does them just fine. I've even used it to drill two inch holes in wood and steel. It struggles with self feeding bit's but if you're good at using your tools you can make it work. I've turned to this drill often when buying Christmas presents for friends that don't work construction. If your a "Do it Yourself-er" or just need a good drill for the home this is a perfect fit. Two batteries, a charger in a good quality carrying case for $100 bucks? What more could you ask for? It's not the the XRP but it's really great for the market it's intended for.

After owning the drill for 4 months, the charger no long works. That component is almost the cost of the drill. I've had a Dewalt Hammer drill stop working after only 2 months. I've been switching all my tools over to Makita or Bosch. I run a small construction business and can't keep putting money into repairs, chargers or new drills every 4 months.

My dad has a craftsman 19.2 volt and he was surprised at how much power this drill had, AND it lasted longer. I love this drill and have used it on a variety of projects. The quick charging batteries are a plus as well, even though you really have be using the drill for a LONG time to need to swap. I love the LED Light. My only complaint is that the light is a little high (tucked too close under the chuck), so the chuck casts a shadow of where you are drilling. I used the bag to carry shot gun shells at target practice. Every friend who has used it compliments it. Best $100 I have spent.

I have two Dewalt drills already, but the battery lives were starting to wane. I bought this model as the lithium ion batteries have held a charge longer (to be fair, they ARE new) and the drill hasn't given me a single problem yet.
