Customer Questions & Answers

Do all chargers for dewalt 20 volt battery's charge the 5.0 ah battery pack

Asked by: Tmk
dewalt needs to provide a charger detailed comparison. My 6 new 5 ah batteries would not 3 bar full charge using the DCB101 or DCB125 chargers. Nirthetn Tool said I would need to buy the DCB118 8 amp charger for these. I am still researching why I only get - or 2 bars after days of charging and why I would need another charger as I gave 6 already. I need to know what to do.

Do the batteries labeled "XR" only work in tools labeled "XR"?

Will a 20v max XR work in a regular 20v max tool?
Asked by: TrevthaBuilder
Don't think so. We've used the XR packs in the non-XR tools and vice-versa and everything seems to work just fine. Also, we have used the 60V packs in all the tools and even used the 18V converter. Everything seems compatible. Very nice system. A bit heavy (we think that's good) and a bit spendy (not delighted, but well, we got over it) so these are now our field tools going forward.

can a 20v (any amp hour battery) function in any 20v power tool (Dewalt only)?

I would like to upgrade by 1.5 amp hour battery in my hammer drill to a 4 amp hour battery in the same tool. Can you upgrade the amp our battery?
Asked by: RB
These fit the new Dewalt tools ... but they make a converter so that you can use these with the older 18V series. The thing comes with a converter, battery and charger for something like $150. Not cheap, but very solid. You can also use the 60V battery with the 20V tools. Lots more life, but a bit more weight.

how long does it take for the battery to fully charge?

Asked by: tonytran
The big 60V battery charges in about 40 minutes. These smaller batteries charge in maybe 20 to 25 minutes. An interesting things is that the charger has a fan that makes a pretty loud hum. Will need to put this in a closet or outside as the noise is enough to prevent a phone conversation nearby while charging.

The price is great and the extra battery life is noticeable on the 16 gauge nail gun, the framing nail gun, and the miter saw. I will have 6 of these and am currently selling off the 3ah. Partially because the gauges and extra life make a difference when getting projects done. I have an excess amount of DeWalt 20v tools and batteries to boot.

Now that we're switching over to the more industrial tools from Dewalt, a broader assortment of batteries is needed. These are every well made and have a bit of heft to them, but if you are in the field, more power is better than less. A bit spendy, but if you make a living with them, then you already know that you need them.
