Since lithium-ion batteries I haven't purchased a "bad" drill. After my first, a makita 10.7v I started to trust cordless drills. I had my makita 18v drill/impact for almost three years with no troubles. Original batteries that to this day have not failed. A good friend of mine is using that very set.
I'm in the automotive industry and do construction on the side. From 8 hour days of continuous use to weeks without use. The batteries were tough. I kept them charged and didn't run them dead.
The drills held up as well. No mechanical failures even with drops. The impact took a thirty foot drop to med. soft dirt. The grips didn't come off with grease and oil on them frequently. The only maintenance was dry graphite lube in the quick release on the impact. ( I would reccomend this especially if your bits get rusty)
That being said I've had my dewalt for two weeks and have used a good amount. I really like the clutch on the drill. "Torque adjustment" it cuts power to the motor instead of the traditional clutch system. It works almost without flaw. I'm happy with the performance with both drill and driver. Time will tell the truth, so far so good.

Walked out of the store, put it in the truck, got home and charged one the batteries up. Then put it on the drill and squeezed the trigger all the way. This drill is eager to get to work! I could feel the torque in my wrist. Mr Dewalt and I are gonnaa get some work done.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ProfCarnage Bought this combo as an upgrade from my Rigid X4 combo.
I fix and remodel houses for a living so I use my drills for pretty much anything and everything that goes into home building and repair. I originally bought a Ridgid X4 drill and impact combo kit because the lifetime warranty seemed to good to pass up. I was building a deck using my Ridgid X4 impact driver on 5 1/2 decking screws and my impact seemed to start impacting away to early. So I decided to try out my brother's base model Dewalt impact driver with a 1.5 amp hour battery pack. Needless to say his impact driver was driving the decking screws twice as fast as my Ridgid. After feeling my Ridgids were insufficient I went ahead and bought this monster of a kit. All I can say is WOW! This set is the best drill set up I've ever used so far. All the other crews that I work alongside with are all impressed with this sets performance and may have just sold quite a few of them just by letting them try my drill and driver out. Great product. a bit pricey but. well worth the investment. Highly reccomended.

Love this combo. Both are very powerful and feel great in the hand. This set also has the long lasting batteries, chances are you will wear out before they do. The only negative is I wish it came with a hard case. I did purchase a dewalt from ebay for $20 and use the soft case as a tool bag.

I bought this to replace my 20yr old DeWalt 12V drill after the second pair of NiMH packs just wouldn't take a charge. I mostly needed a drill, but got this set because the price difference was only $20 more for 2 tools instead of one - with the compromise being a canvas case instead of the hard case. I'm actually just as impressed with the impact driver as I am with the drill. I will hopefully never need another cordless drill in my life. Since there are no brushes, and I expect the transmission and chuck to last as long as my previous DeWalt, and Li-ion packs are cheaper than NiMH and will just keep getting cheaper - I should only have to buy batteries. These lasted an entire job with power to spare.
I do wish there was better illumination from behind the chuck on the DC995 drill like there is on the impact driver instead of from beneath the grip. The only other gripe I have is that I wish I could change driver/drill/hammer mode with a separate control and not have to change my spring clutch tension when I change from driver to drill or hammer mode.
Despite those minor complaints, I could not be more pleased. You CANNOT beat brushless!

Impact driver lasted 2 days on a single charge removing and installing security screens on a comercial building using selftapping screws. Plenty of power to spare.

So far the 20 v tools are out performing the older 18 volt tools they are replacing. The main and most important factor is in the battery life.

I have been using Dewalt tools for years now and my old impact was getting a little rough the edges. Iam an HVAC technician, so mytools takea beating. Besides I've been needing a hammer drill for awhile. Tool performance is what to be expected, they work. Everyone who borrows the set is amazed by their performance, I've come to expect it. What is really impressive is the battery life. I can use the impact all day on a single charge with constant use. The hammer drill eats a slight bit more battery when drilling through concrete, but still out last any other drill I've used.
