I have the older 20v impact and drill. The batteries for these are much smaller. (Thinner). Is it ok to use them on these newer models

Asked by: Me
I'm concerned about amperage here. If the old batteries are not rated for the same amps as your new drill, when you put them on the new drill, you might have a real hot battery situation! I would not do this myself. Your new drill is a superb outfit! Great tool, great RECHARGEABLE batteries. Enjoy!

Does this kit come in lower volts,, like 18 or 14volts?

Asked by: ray
Ray, Mine is an 18v version and that is plenty. When you use this as an impact driver you better have your seatbelt on. If you squeeze the trigger all the way it is going to deliver enough to turn your entire project! I'm serious as a heart attack! If it's a small project or piece, put it in a good vise first. If your are drilling something that is large and won't fit in a vise, make sure it won't flip around on you. The drill is stronger than any I've ever handled, so 18volt is plenty. You can get the 20 volt version if you want. Check the prices and check your budget! You can't go wrong here.

Noise when you let off the trigger on the drill

I have had an 18volt for years and just got this one. I have noticed that when I stop on the drill it makes a clunk noise when the motor stops. is the normal? is it because its brushless?
Asked by: Fred
Fred. The noise is the drill hitting the brakes. That's good! If it takes a while to spin down and you let it go before it quits, the drill could do some nasty damage to your knee or hand. Worse if it takes off on a short trip around the work site.

What would cause this impact to just flash light at top of impact with full bttery Ft

Asked by: Pico
The tool will flash when pull the trigger, but you need to PUSH the tool onto your work to get some work done. This hammer drill will do it's job, just apply it to the area you want drilled. Note in the photo. 1. Right hand on the drill. 2. Left hand should also be on the drill if the work is clamped or fixed. If you have to hold the work, be extremely careful not to get your hand close to the running drill and wear sturdy glove on that hand.

Which battery?

A friend told me that the brushless models only take the larger of the two batteries. Is this true? I was unable to find information in the instruction manual covering this question. Are only the higher amp batteries designed for this system?
Asked by: Matt
The kit comes with 2 batteries. One does the work while the other is on the charger. Note, keep the batteries peaked up because all rechargeables will lose charge over time. The documentation suggests you keep one on the charger all the time. I don't follow this practice, but before I start work with one, I put the other on the charger.

Hard Case

I would love to get this combo pack but there is no hard case. Is there a way to get the combo with a hard case rather than the soft case shown? I prefer a hard case as the tools tend to get "love" over time and this avoids damage. I hope they do offer it or its a deal breaker for me....Please let me know!
Asked by: JROD
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. This set is only available with the soft pack, but we do carry hard packs that may suit your needs you can view here: http://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-Hardware-Tool-Storage/DEWALT/N-5yc1vZc22eZ4j2/Ntk-Extended/Ntt-dewalt%2Bcase?Ntx=mode+matchpartialmax&NCNI-5 We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. 20-Volt Max XR Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit (2-Tool) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good solid tool set Both tools are good size and weight and the tools bag holds it all well in a small package. Impact driver works just like any other power screw driver until it meets resistance, then the impact kicks in and drives it home with ease. The hammer drill made for fast work for setting lags in block without the need for a power cord. The 20v battery gives all the needed power and life to get the job with less weight than my older 18v models. The built in work lights are well placed and almost eliminate the need for a hand work light. The battery meter also takes the guess work out of knowing when to charge for the next task.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from cheap motors I have already been through 2 - 20 volt hammer drills in 2 years. The motors start smoking and then they quit working.Bought the 20 volt sawsall and it burned up in just over 1 year.My old18 volt set has worked for over 12 years now and i haven't had any problems with them except for buying new batteries. I think the quality has gone downhill. I'm gonna give Milwaukee a try.Really sad because I have everything DeWalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tools Love this combo. Both are very powerful and feel great in the hand. This set also has the long lasting batteries, chances are you will wear out before they do. The only negative is I wish it came with a hard case. I did purchase a dewalt from ebay for $20 and use the soft case as a tool bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product/ Cheap Carry Case The drills are excellent and have enough power to do almost anything you need them to. The batteries last really long and don't give out easily. I've used them for drill through wood, metal, brick, cinder block, and plastic. The price is not bad especially compared to Milwaukee's overpriced products. Well, at least they provide nice durable carry cases for the drills. DeWalt shamefully gave only a flimsy cloth bag in which the expensive drills are vulnerable and not concealed if they got wet while carrying them from the work vehicle to the job site. My zipper broke in the first week and now the bag is always open and could barely carry the weight of the product. Everything else is awesome. I expected more from DeWalt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best cordless I have ever had I am a handy man and I use these drills on a daily basis. The amount I can get done on a single charge is astounding!!!! Love these and looking to expand my collection. I also use the oscillating tool and would recommend that tool as well. Nice job Dewalt

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than 18v XRP series I've owned the 18v XRP series tools for over 12 years and they continue to serve me well. That being said the 20v XR tools are a solid step forward in tool performance. I Loved the longevity of the 18V line and interchangeability of the batteries. I hope the 20v line does this also,. The 18v XRP Lithium Ion batteries were great performers, The 20v XR battery promises to be even better. In comparison of the two 18v XRP battery has 39 Whr worth of power to deliver to the tool. The 20v Xr battery has over twice that at 80 Whr of stored energy. As long as the 20 v tools last as long as the 18volt series I would recommend the 20v XR series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome cordless I have use both tools in remodeling my house the battery last so long on a charge. So much torque. Only bad thing to say is that it does not come with any impact bits like the cheaper models do. And the switch to change direction is too easy to push. Doesn't seem to lock in as well as it should

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good. Just used them both for the first time (I haven't run the batteries down yet) but I finished my project and both the drill and impact driver worked great. So far I am really pleased. I struggled in picking a drill combo. Almost purchased the Bosch set but the dewalt deal was better. As far as the tool are compared I considered them equivalent. I am really pleased with the low speed controllability of the the variable speed triggers.
