GREAT LITTLE PLANER FOR THE MONEY,
IT DOES NOT COME WITH A ADAPTER FOR A DUST BAG.
HAD TO ORDER ONE ONLINE, EXTRA $16 BUCKS.
OTHER THAN THAT WORKS GREAT.
IF DEWALT IS READING THIS, PLEASE COME OUT WITH A CORDLESS MODEL...

Worked exactly like I expected it to. Made quick work of a big job.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Riggs Great planer but lacks dust collection
I had this up and running in minutes and I have to say it planes boards very well. I haven't tried the attachments as they seem a bit cheap and not really necessary. I gave it 5 stars because it performs its main purpose very well. However, like any planer would it blows wood shavings out the exhaust port like crazy and no dust bag or attachments are included. You can buy a dust collector attachment but it isn't easy to find. Google search part number 5140090-45 and you should find it for about $6.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bear6000 Good General Purpose Planer
I bought this planer to assist me with finishing a deck structure and some other projects. This appears to be the less powerful version of the 7 amp Dewalt hand planer (which I would have bought if I had noticed it- that's what happens when you buy tools in a rush without researching).
The big differences between this model and the other are that this model comes with resharpenable high speed steel blades instead of reversible carbide(I've yet to determine if they're interchangeable, I doubt it though), a 5.5 amp motor instead of a 7 amp and a slightly lower RPM (15,000 vs. 17,000). This model still has a handy detachable fence and a knob depth adjustment.
It worked quite well planing pressure treated wood, but bogged down slightly when I tried to rush it a little at 1/16th inch depth and a full 3.25 inch width cut. My solution was simply to slow down and it performed fine with a smooth, chatter free surface finish.
In summary, for general purpose softwood lumber fitting and small job planing this is a great value. If you need a power hand planer for hardwoods and larger jobs, gather up a few extra $20's and get what you really need, you'll thank yourself later.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by docofrock2000 Good value but should have vac attachment
I could have given 5 stars if the vac attachment was included. Unless you're working outside you need it. Tool works great though as expected from Dewalt which is the main thing. I lucked out that my 1-1/4 shop vac nozzle fit in. Tools that spew this much debris need to have features options included to capture.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Conrad Deceptive description on the box
The back of the box claims this planer will work with both the supplied HSS knives and available carbide knives. My store also sold the carbide knives so I bought them too. What I didn't discover until I began reading the instructions at home is that you must buy a separate adapter to use the carbide knives. This is not sold in my local HD and was a deal breaker for me. I returned the tool and will shop for a different planer with carbide knives already installed.

This replaces a no name hand planer that died. Functionally, it is obviously very similar in operation, but it is easier to set up and use. I like It a lot.
