I bought this drill and it goes from 0 to 2500rpm with just a tap on the trigger. the only variable is how hard you pull on the trigger. Mixed thinset and it flung it all over the work area. Not a true variable speed drill???

Answer:
The speed of this drill is dependent on the amount of pressure on its trigger. The more you press the trigger the faster the speed.

You're correct. It relies on finger pressure. You have to be very careful for jobs that don't require brute force.

What does the 3/8 in. in the title signify? does that affect the size of the bits the drill can take?

I am not very familiar with the sizes and other statistics of drills, all i know is how to use them safely and that is all i need to know for building as a hobby.

Answer:
3/8" means that the chuck can accept any drill bit or screw driver bit with a maximum diameter of 3/8'. But don't let that mislead you. You can use a 3/4" drill bit if the shaft of the bit is 3/8". You can find these types of bits in the hardware section at Home Depot.

A typical household bit set will come with bits of diameters ranging from 1/16" to 3/8". Bits smaller than that exist, but most would probably be impossible to lock into the chuck of a typical 3/8" drill. For such skinny bits as like, 1/64, you'd need a roto-tool and a drill-chuck mandril matching the size, or where the size falls within the narrow range those tools are capable of dealing with.
For bits up past 3/8" you generally will have to go with a spade-bit, or some specialty bit with a larger (or smaller, depending on the job,) bit part than the part that you insert into the chuck. It's common with larger bits to see things like a 1/2 shank drill bit that drills or bores holes up to 3/4, 7/8, or even 1 ".

Answer:
Anything that accepts a screw driver bit and turns can be used as a screw driver. However, this drill has a ton of power but no clutch and the variable speed control is just finger pressure. It will round out screw heads.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 108 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Practical kit and great price Easy to manage this drill by women hands. Great tool for my home projects. Maybe need more power for our concrete walls, but for me, it woked just fine. And with the bag included, that was a plus in the decision of buying it. July 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The right tool for the job !! This drill is exactly what i was looking for, the right price, the right size, the right amount of power for the jobs that I will be tackling. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A very powerful and well spent money. The drill is very powerful. The trigger is very sensitive but after a little use easy to adjust to it. The power cord makes it an asset to our workshop since it doesn't require hours of charging batteries nor the expense associated with lithium batteries. Excellent product. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great and easy to use Great and easy to use you just need to buy the drill bit becuase it does not come with one September 9, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Tool High Quality Tool. Work in any environment. I recommend to everybody. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Drill Got this drill almost 3 years ago. Lots of power. Plenty rugged. We put together a metal framed house with it over 2 years. Lots of drilling and lots of screwing. Chuck finally gave out this year. DeWalt 3 year warranty only covers defective parts, not wear-out parts. Estimated cost is $40. Still, we've used the drill for hundreds of hours. It's been dropped off of the ladder many times. Worked great in 100°+ temps as well as freezing weather. Wish it were a bit lighter but it's not too bad. Will definitely purchase again when we need another. July 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Don't use drill daily therefore this was a much better choice than the battery operated drill. August 9, 2016
