variable speed???

I bought this drill and it goes from 0 to 2500rpm with just a tap on the trigger. the only variable is how hard you pull on the trigger. Mixed thinset and it flung it all over the work area. Not a true variable speed drill???
Asked by: Vance
yes but 4 hole making and driving fasteners (like screws).

What does the 3/8 in. in the title signify? does that affect the size of the bits the drill can take?

I am not very familiar with the sizes and other statistics of drills, all i know is how to use them safely and that is all i need to know for building as a hobby.
Asked by: GeoMarko
3/8 inch is the fractional description of the drill shank (base) diameter; to get decimal size (digital) , divide the 3 by the 8 and get 0.375 inches and that is what you will apply within your math formulas.

I have an elder version of this and used it 4 a screw gun and it has guts to do so. A lot of people say it is a drill and not a screw driver. I told them with a lot of attachments u can use a variable speed drill (v-s-r only in corded) as a screw gun. I have a black + decker H-I and or carpenters book that says so. Don't let anyone tell u different. I used this drill contractor and all day in contractor it held up well. These r great toys 4 us the handymen and ladies who r handy as well. If I hooked u and or convinced u in getting 1 then great. But if not I no a lot about tools to tell u what is good or junk and if it is worth it or not.

I had to choose a drill fast cause I needed one to complete the build on my reloading bench; both of my Sears 3/8" & 1/4" drills had been lifted from my open garage sometime in the last week or so (01-18-17). I have had good luck buying and using DeWalt tools for years now, always ready to go when you need them, so I chose to spend a few bucks more and invest in this one. I must say; the storage\carry bag was a pleasant surprise, but the real kicker was the solid quiet controllable torque that chewed right threw my 2" thick reloading table like it was butter! I'll include a photo here just for the heck of it! Here's my drill and bag up against the Rock Crusher I mounted, awesome job on drill design guys, one engineer to another! Thank you so much... picture shares a thousand words ehh fellas!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drill Got this drill almost 3 years ago. Lots of power. Plenty rugged. We put together a metal framed house with it over 2 years. Lots of drilling and lots of screwing. Chuck finally gave out this year. DeWalt 3 year warranty only covers defective parts, not wear-out parts. Estimated cost is $40. Still, we've used the drill for hundreds of hours. It's been dropped off of the ladder many times. Worked great in 100°+ temps as well as freezing weather. Wish it were a bit lighter but it's not too bad. Will definitely purchase again when we need another.

Have DeWalt battery drills but needed a corded version to drill 1/2" holes for electrical in old rafters. Used a high speed bit and it worked great. This has plenty of power and the keyless chuck is nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mothers Day Gift First lets start off with this drill, my daughter is a single parent and had told my Granddaughters she wanted a drill and bits for Mothers day. Went online to Home Depot, took a look at the choices, cordless or electric, weighed the difference and decided the electric one was the best choice..so with the Home Depot price and the Dewalt brand I thought it was the right choice. I gave the drill an overall rating of excellent, quality, excellent and value excellent ...I have not used the drill personally but when my daughter opened up her gift from her girls she was blown away!!

Would have been nice if the product description SPECIFIED that it doesn't come with bits. Amateur DIY'ers (like me) might be surprised to get started on their job, open the box... and realize there aren't any bits. What kind of drill "kit" doesn't come with the bits???
