Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good buy I bought this drill because I am a Carpenter by Trade and build a lot of Decks, Fences and about anything really. A battery powered Drill is not an option for all the drilling I do. A battery powered drill is good for small jobs that its not worth the time to break out the extension cord to use it. This Dewalt I have had for several years and has bored thousands of holes and 20 times as many screws. Then the switch failed, was sporadic at first but wasn't long and it quit. I bought a new switch online for around $25, installed it and it worked great for a month then nothing. Do I buy another switch? Not sure yet. But opening up the casing its about the only thing in there that can fail because the rest of the guts are very well built. Very powerful, durable, well built. Not for the weak or the beginner. If you are that then buy a more expensive battery powered drill. Compared to the other drills and prices available I believe I would buy another one. March 26, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great working drill This is a great drill, and have had no issues with using it since I have purchased it. I went with the corded version as I did not want to deal with batteries that wear out over time. With the amount of electrical sockets in a home and having an extension cable it has not impacted my use of the drill in any way. The drill is nice as you can adjust the pressure on the trigger to choose how fast the drill goes, however it would be nice if you could lock it so when driving in screws it would stay at the needed slower speed so you don't accidentally damage the screw head. I have used this drill to drill pilot holes for hanging various items through the home, as well as using a larger 1/2" bit to drill a hole through the floor to run speaker and networking cable down into the basement. Changing the various bits is easy, and while I have only had the drill for a few months it is looking as it will last for years to come. Dewalt makes a great product and I would recommend this to any one looking for a solid and reliable drill. August 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Drill Drill is easy to use, but make sure that you use the handle so that you can hold on to the drill with both hands...... I didn't and the drill bit caught and spun the drill out of my hand with the cord catching my little finger on my right hand and breaking my knuckle - very painful and it could have been avoided! My Bad....but the drill is fine! December 10, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Product provided diminishing value This drill has a kick during startup. Over the first few months bits started slipping. After 2 years the trigger mechanism failed. The repair shop said that Dewalt's quality has plummeted and that failed triggers is a common problem. The limited 3-year warranty has no value because I have to pay for the replacement part and its installation. I recommend not buying this product. March 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Magnificent drill. It performs as I expected. I've been using this tool since I bought it. My wife learned to use the tool and now she uses it for handcrafting. December 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great DeWALT Product This is a really good product at an exceptional price. The value for the dollar is really fantastic. It easily handles most every household task, limited only by the 3/8 in. chuck; however, this also lends to the more compact and usable nature of the product. Quality is outstanding as would be expected of DeWALT. The included carry case is a valued plus, and like the drill itself it is well constructed. With 7 amps of power, and ball-bearing drive, this drill is smooth running and very powerful as well as being easy and convenient to use with its keyless chuck. The trigger can tend to be a bit touchy and takes a little getting used to, but it is smooth and even across the entire power range. Overall, this is a great tool at a great price! November 8, 2010
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good drill if you're careful First off its very well constructed and seems like this drill will last for years to come. I finally purchased my own drill after using my fathers with a keyed tightener for years. Overall I really like the drill and it feels like it has plenty of power and will never get bogged down. However, it may have to much power because I find that especially in the beginning I was stripping a lot of screws. You need to start out slow and never push the trigger all the way down if you're using a smaller screw or it'll strip it. The trigger sensitivity could be better and takes some getting use to. Even with practice I find occasionally I will strip the screws. Many of these problems can be mitigated by buying better screws. I wish the trigger was a little more sensitive, I feel like it goes too easily from a low speed to full rev which strips the screw. If you knows the pros and cons and take the time to get use to the drill its very good. August 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Great Little Drill I really like this drill, it has a lot of power. It takes a little time to get used to the power, I strip the head out of several 3 inch deck screws and sank them into the decking before I got the hang of the trigger. I am a bigger fan of the cordless drills, but in building a deck I found myself changing out batteries every 15 to 20 screws, so I would recommend using a electric drill instead, and this is a great drill for the job.
