CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 42 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Jig Saw! I needed a jig saw so I went to the local store, shopped around and then came home and read reviews online. After seeing this saw had good reviews I bought one. I also purchased Bosch blades. I've been using jig saws for many years and this saw is by far the best I've ever used. The Bosch blades with this saw cut through 1/2" plywood like a hot knife cuts through butter - very smooth and precise operation. I also love the keyless blade holder - very nice feature (they didn't have that available twenty five years ago when I purchased my previous jig saw). The saw has a "good feel" to it, it's comfortable to use, heavy but not too heavy, very easy and very intuitive to operate and it's truly been a joy to use. So far I've used it to cut plywood, MDF and 0.626 thick aluminum and I have zero complaints. I only wish I'd bought one of these earlier - highly recommended. Don't forget to buy blades - it doesn't come with any - but don't get cheap blades. December 24, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does its job It is a simple machine without any gimmicky details. It cuts smooth and with power. I have used it on wood, laminates, metal and cement board. It cuts straight, or leaves for easily navigating tight turns. Blade change is easy, it is variable speed, and you can lock the trigger on for easier working. It is well balanced, and it is designed so it is easy to see the line you are cutting. This was the second jigsaw purchase in so many days. The first was blocky and difficult to use. A switch to this DeWalt made everything work great. If I could change one thing, it would be to make the swivel base easier to adjust. You have to use a hex wrench (not included) to adjust it. Would be great if it did not require tools to adjust. March 10, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by looking for quality jig saw we have used many different jig saws , and this one is has performed well April 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic blade clamp?? At first I thought this was a great deal. It was meant to replace my 40-year-old Craftsman that I put through heck over the years. It finally died when the reciprocating mechanism finally gave up. I was looking for a compact jigsaw with medium power and the DK317 was a good fit, plus it was on sale for $20 off. I knew it probably wouldn't be as tough as the Craftsman, but it should be up to most jobs. The first few jobs were done with ease. One time the blade came out on its own, but I just assumed I must have installed it incorrectly. Yesterday I was using a coarse blade to cut a soft pine 2x6 in a garage roof repair. I hit a nail and the blade was ripped out of the saw. I reinstalled it and seconds later the blade flew out and landed six feet away. After that, blades refused to stay in for more than a few seconds. When I examined the blade clamp, I found it was made of PLASTIC! Engineers at DeWalt seriously thought this was a good idea? There was a groove sliced in it where it is supposed to hold the blade. Also, the lever used to open the blade clamp had a similar slice in it from running into obstacles. I would much rather have a metal screw clamp the never lets go rather than a plastic "convenient" clamp that doesn't clamp. On the good side, I did like the dial that allowed for setting the maximum speed. This prevents you from cutting too fast for your particular job. Of course, I threw away the box in a cleaning frenzy, trusting the DeWalt to last at least through the 90-day return period. It didn't even make 10 days. Do not buy a saw with a plastic blade holder! If you do, save the box. OR, do an online search for"dw317 replacement parts." You are looking for Blade Clamp Assembly, Part Number: 623199-00 for about $10 +shipping. Order 6 or 8 of them, or at least 2, as I did. Fortunately, it is easy to replace. There are two small Allen bolts that hold it to the shaft. DeWalt: make a durable blade clamp and I'd rate this tool a 4. As for the wandering blade, I don't notice it since I am used to keeping a close watch on saw cuts and make quick corrections the instant it goes off track. Yes, to whole blade guide assembly on this saw is sloppy. Fix that and I'd give it a 5. Better luck designing your replacement for this jig saw. August 7, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by dewalt jigsaw This is a don't buy! I have had many dewalt tools and they are reliable and well built. You cant go wrong with a dewalt drill or mitre saw. When it comes to jig saws, I was very disappointed with this saw. The motor and variable speed/ tool change is great. However, the blade wanders and it is close to impossible to follow a radius. The blade attachment is flimsy and the small little useless roller that is supposed to guide the blade just doesnt cut it! Not to mention the high price and one cheap blade it comes with. Go with BOSCH when it comes to jig saws. Dewalt missed the mark here. January 16, 2009

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A really great saw for many uses. I have owned this saw for quite a while now and I use it in my furniture building business all the time and I think this is a lot of saw for the money. I do not know why some say they are haveing problem making accurate cuts with this saw, I have never had any such problem nor has anyone that has used my saw. My saw cuts exactly where you point it. I do wish it had the heavier base on it tho, it is just a mental thing. I love it and highly recommend this saw. August 7, 2012
