these cutters get points for having spring loaded handles, and compound action, but thats about it.. being a utility lineman for almost 15 years ive bought and used MANY different brands and types, including these Dewalts, and their lineman pliers too.. they are "just ok". the jaws are not hardened all that well, which is why my set has a few chips, as well as a broken tip... if you don't have to cut anything that hard, or wide - then these will work well for you.. romex, maybe some small braided or small solid wires and itll be ok.. however there are better choices. another problem with these is the jaws dont open very wide at all, which is a huge limitation, especially paired with the softer jaws. this might force you to do more cutting just with the tips, making it more likely for them to chip and break.... crescent makes a line very similar to these, which are a HUGE improvement over the entire Dewalt compound cutting line. the Crescents open MUCH wider, and seem to be much harder as well since mine have held up much better to alot more use. the Crescent model are also spring loaded, and stop at a detent to a moderate jaw opening, BUT, you can pull the handles open past the detent to allow their jaws to open about twice as wide as the Dewalts.. with similar price tags, i cant imagine buying the dewalt over the crescents knowing what i just told you... search online for "compound cutting crescent" and look for the blue handles. they have the same tools in their line - diagonal cutters, long nose and lineman pliers.. it will be money well spent

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JEC239 Not DeWalt manufactured, poor quality
In the market to replace a set of Craftsman diagonal cutters that had lasted more than 20 years. They do not make them anymore so started looking around. Found these, and as I own many DeWalt woodworking tools, figured them to be a good replacement. I was wrong. The jaws barely open, if your cutting anything thicker than 14 gauge Romex, have to make 2 cuts. The device to hold them closed does not work, every time I put them in my pouch, they spring open. They also have no spring to return the cutterhead to the open position. Started looking around again for a quality pair and noticed these exact same cutters as different brands which means they're probably manufactured overseas and each company puts it's own name/colored handles on them. Very disappointed in these and DeWalt for selling them. If you do any electrical work (cutting Romex) stay away from these.

They are good cutters and definitely built well. The only thing that really takes away from them is they don't open up very wide. Other than that, they work well.

I bought these for cutting wire stems on silk flowers, and they are perfect. I love the fact that they have a lock so my granddaughter can't use them when I put them down. The hand grip is very comfortable, and I hardly have to use any strength to cut with them. I would like to get another pair to use
outside when I have to cut wire in the garden.
