Customer Questions & Answers

how do i close and open this knife

Asked by: pat
To open the knife you simply fold it open and then push the blade forward by sliding the button on the top of the knife forward. To close it you would retract the blade using the same button but pull it to the rear and the press the lock inside the handle of the knife and fold it closed. **See picture for frame lock location

how to change blade

how to change blade
Asked by: ronnie
DO NOT REMOVE ANY SCREWS! The blade is changed by pressing and holding down the small black button on the left side near where the blade extends out of the silvet/gray portion of the handle. Hokdibg this button down simply pull the blade straight out of the handle. This button is the same one that locks/releases the exposed blade. To install a new blade just hold the button down and slide the new blade - sharp edge facing away from the button - into the blade slot until the two notches are inside the handle. Finally slide the black thumb guide to fully retract the blade into the handle and correctly position it for use. Then use the knife as you normally would. (FYI - There are 2 extra blades stired in the yellow & black portion of the handle. Lift the butt end of the black portion of the handle - it hinges on the same hinge as the knife folds. The extra blades are in a slot on one side with the black cover open.)

Folding Retractable Utility Knife is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blade holder needs redesign There's too much play in the blade holder which allows the blade to come out or get jammed in the knife. Back to the drawing board Dewalt.

Its held up great to daily use in the field. I really like the option of storing extra blades in the handle. Its a little thick in the pocket, however with it being thicker than most other knifes it fits really well in the hand and is very comfortable to use. The pocket clip holds it tight and keeps it in place. I haven't had any issues with it falling out of my pocket. Its lasted me a lot longer than expected, especially at this price point. I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Knife I take this knife to the limit as i go through 30-50 blades daily cleaning the grout lines on the marble floors. It is durable, has a comfortable handle, its compact and it can fit up to 4 extra blades in the handle. i own 3 of these knifes and donated all of my other knifes by other brands.

Following the instructions to change blades because there are no instructions on how to put the blade in, poorly written by the way, the blade slid in and disappeared only to be seen again when I came to this page and sat it down at which point the blade fell out. Interesting because shaking it and tapping it and following instructions on how to change blades did not result in it falling out or even being seen. There are three blades included but I can see how other reviews might have missed seeing them. I love tools and thought this would be a cool tool. It feels great, retracts nicely and easily. Too bad about the blade thing because it only makes a paper weight without blades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I have two of these knifes. The first one Recently had the back cover broke off. Was not surprised that it did though... It fell off a 18 foot commercial building roof. Action is very solid and easy to use. the storage compartment is nice. I do not have to cary extra blades in my pocket anymore since it has a nice storage system. If you accidently push the blade out while it is folded up you cannot release it since it collides with the blade compartment. For the people who complaid about not knowing how to put a blade in. I can somewhat understand why, but for those who owned similar blade design already know what to do. You have to push the blade all the way forward, then you can push the black blade lock release and insert a new blade and its done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where Have You Been? This utility knife is truly a nice surprise. I've owned several folding, retractable, non-folding, easy to change, screw to get to the chamber, utility knives & this is a top notch utility knife. Safety features: blade retracts, folds with blade safely secured within the knifes body, user can select blade depth, sturdy metal body (dropped it from a roof, did not break, but its scratched ruined the nice finished), dyna locking system, which holds the knife secured while cutting, these are but a few safety features. I'm sure thatI'm forgetting some. Pros: 1. Storage for 3 extra blades (most folding retractables do not have this feature), which is very convientent when you can't get to your work bag or pouch. Who likes to work with dull blades? No one. 2. Can easily be carried in your pant pocket (its attached to my hip everyday know), on belt or tool belt (yes, I have an extra one). 3. In my opinion one of the best safety features in a knife (see my comments above). I leave it laying around everywhere & my young girls can't open it. 4. Easy to open one handed (hard at first). 5. Nice feel & balance when cutting, thumb guard to apply pressure when needed. 6. Many more, but I don't want to write a book. Cons: Minor, but the clip to carry in pants or belt could be better designed, sometimes its hard to attach. Also, inserting the blade can be tricky in new knives. This knife has replaced my Milwaukee fastback knife for everyday, mostly because of the storage of blades & the non-retractable blade in the knife. Both great knifes, but the DeWalt knife has won it's spot on the tool belt. Now, go out & add this knife to your tool arsenal. I'm sure it will also sneak up on you & easily work its way into your everyday life. It's also a great value for the price.
