Answer:
For our DMX-1 underlayment we used their recommended Indoor 2.5 in. x 80 ft. Clear Vapor Tape. We used two boxes of DMX-1 and ordered 2 rolls or tape. This we just enough to complete the job.

One reasonably available brand is Tuck, which makes a reddish vapor tape. The DMX Vapor Tape that Home Depot sells is the tape that we provide for sale, and recommend for the purpose.
As to the types of flooring appropriate for your utility room, if you check our website at https://www.dmxplastics.com you will find in the 1-Step section the Installation Checklists which go into detail about the installation of various types of flooring over 1-Step. The actual flooring selection would be best handled with the assistance of your local Home Depot flooring associate. Read Less

Answer:
You can use simple clear carton sealing tape to join the underlayment together where a gap is present.
This underlayment, as well as any type, will only go over an accepted floating floor system, like laminate or click-lock real wood floors. Since vinyl, solid hardwood, and tiles don't require an underlayment like this, one isn't needed.

Answer:
I doubled over my joint lines (i.e. one down the seam and one on each side - three passes) and used just a little more than one roll of tape for each roll of underlayment. I had some house wrap tape on hand so I finished with that.
For 500 sq ft, I would get six rolls if you plan to do this method. Otherwise for a single pass of tape, 4-5 should be plenty.

Hello Antbe,
You lay DMX 1-Step directly on your cement floor (dimples faced down), you seal the seems with our Vapor Tape. You can install your laminate floor directly on top of DMX 1-Step, as long as the laminate has a minimum thickness of 8mm. Please visit our website www.dmx1step.com for more information.

Answer:
I would not risk putting anything absorbent on top of the DMX 1-STEP. This includes felt padding or a rug. If your basement gets wet or damp, the risk of ruining your rug seems pretty high. Plus the DMX 1-STEP is not very comfortable to walk on by itself.

Answer:
I am pretty sure DMX 1-STEP is meant mainly for hard floors. Since it is designed to repel moisture and let small amounts of water evaporate, I would not recommend putting any porous or absorbent material on top of it. Which means I would not consider putting felt padding on the DMX 1-STEP Underlayment. I hope this answers your question.

Answer:
If you wish to lay carpet, then you will need to put down 5/8" plywood or OSB in between DMX 1-Step and the carpet.
We have a new product called DMX Airflow that does not require any plywood or OSB under carpet, you can find out more information at www.dmxairflow.com.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by underlaymant for flooring Purchased this item to put on cement under laminate flooring. Installer said it would make a difference if someone fell on the floor, it would cushion the fall, and could be the difference in a bruise or a break. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DMX 1-STEP Excellent product I highly recommend!! You won't be disappointed October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's called "1-step" for a reason. It's fast to install and quiet to walk on. No need for felt underneath. Used it in basement under 3/4" T&G for dance floor and some carpet. I was able to use a biscuit jointer for the OSB edges that weren't T&G so didn't level the concrete. I sealed the underlayment seams with Tyvek tape as instructed. The underlayment was worth every penny. October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best basement underlay This product does exactly what it is supposed to. I bought 10 rolls to do all of my basement. Lay this down first on the bare concrete floor and tape all the seems with tuck tape and it will create a vapor barrier for the floor. Then installed 3/4 t&g exterior grade plywood. Then installed my floating floor with another vapour barrier The product is very sturdy so it will not flatten under the plywood. Installed last year before winter. No problems up to now and everything is nice and solid. May 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! Very easy to install. I used this under tounge and groove subfloor in my basement and then covered it with carpet. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good so far I purchased the DMX after looking at Platon membrane and Dri-Core panels. The DMX product seems to be in between in terms of cost, though considerably cheaper than Dri-Core. I ultimately went with this over the Platon to get the foam layer that provides the insulation value. This was going down in a basement bed room in a new house that has a completely unfinished basement so far. The product was extremely easy to install. I suspected it would have a tendency to curl since it comes in a roll, but only the inside edge curled a little bit and it quickly relaxed. It is very easy to cut and the 1-Step tape goes on easy too. I bought two rolls of underlayment and two rolls of tape. The sq footage was right on the mark. This room is 192 sq ft and I had just a little bit of leftover. I doubled over the tape so there was a wider swath of type and I used both rolls of tape plus a little bit of house wrap tape I had on hand. I then put 23/32 T&G OSB on top. Even though I am doing a hardwood floor in that room, the adjacent room will be carpet so I didn't want a big transition between the two without the T&G under the hardwood. Even with just the T&G in place, I notice a huge difference in the floor temperature which is what I was going for. I would advise caution when walking on the membrane or rolling heavy equipment on it. Even though its floor loading is good once you get a floor on top of it, it can compress and invert the dimples with enough force. Dropping some plywood on top of it while you're working would certainly help. Now for the framing stage... July 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good I just installed this product on my basement floor. When I purchased it, I was pleased to see that they now attach a role of tape to it for sealing the edges. Overall, it installed quite easily. I put an excellent, commercial quality Wicander 10+ mm cork laminate directly on top of it and had no difficulties. The floor looks excellent but sounds a little hollow when walking on it. I also have a slate pool table on it and it seems to be able to hold the weight just fine. I'm hoping this provides a nice insulated, waterproof floor for this room. Fingers crossed. January 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The BEST way to control moisture and give your floor a softer feel! I bumped into this product searching the Internet for a way to waterproof my basement floor. I emailed several questions directly to the manufacturer and they responded immediately with details on how to handle each situation. DMX 1 Step is easy to install and as I covered more of the concrete floor I started to notice that musty basement smell could not be detected in the areas I completed. The hardest part for me was drilling into the concrete floor to use the TAPCON screws. Buy a higher quality hammer drill and lots of drill bits. I installed 5/4 x 4 sleepers and then 3/4" OSB glued and screwed over top. The sleepers are installed 24" on center. The floor has the same kind of flex as the main level of the house. My wife loves the way it feels when she walks on the basement floor. The moisture control is allowing us to install hardwood floor in the basement. That is typically a no-no. I'm confident the DMX 1 Step is going to be the key to my finished basement not looking or feeling like a finished basement. It's a great product! July 17, 2015
