What is art glass?

What is art glass?
Asked by: luckygirl
You asked what is "art glass?" Art glass pieces are a great way to bring color and add visual interest to any space. It can be the mouth-blown cylinder method, whereby, a craftsman (or crafts woman) blows a glass cylinder which is annealed and then cooled. The cylinder is then scored (cut) lengthwise, separated, re-heated and folded out into a flat sheet. Common characteristics include attractive linear striations and a very pristine surface. As in the case of faux Tiffany lamps (such as this lamp) colored glass is crafted into stained glass windows in which small pieces of glass are arranged to form patterns (a design), which are held together (traditionally) by strips of lead and supported by a frame (edges). For example, painted details and yellow stain are often used to enhance a design. These colorful pieces of "art glass" are oftentimes used in creating beautiful stain glass windows in buildings. "Art Glass" is another fancy term for "stained glass."
