We run a dehumidifier in out basement during the summer months which keeps things from becoming damp. Since the crawl space is an unfinished space, it is closed off from the rest of the basement, and the dehumidifier does not directly effect that space. We use that area for storage and want to keep things from getting musty smelling, but another dehumidifier was not an option. This product was the perfect solution.

Perfect for a humid basement office, we also use this product in our Florida condo timeshare. The fresh scent is definitely noticeable, and if this bothers you, you can opt for perfume-free refillable inserts instead. It's not overpowering, certainly, but if you're using this in a closet with clothes or an office to help keep paperwork and documents dry you might opt for a scent free version.
Effective, tidy, and they last for months. We've had great results with these.

i've used these for years. they absorb water very well! This particular model comes with an insert and a top with an open grill. you open the pouch with the crystals and pour it into one aerated cup that fits into another and then you place the plastic grill on top. this way the liquid that is absorbed by the crystals, which appear flat and white when new and dry, falls into the bottom container. Otherwise the crystals would become a blob. while the crystals work they become round and yellow. The liquid that comes through the smaller insert into the larger cup is a bit greasy but there is no need to touch it. I just pour it into the toilet and flush and there is no residue. The only con is the fragrance when the crystals are new. This smell dissipates after a few days. However, I understand that you can also purchase a fragrance-free variety. I use this one in my bathroom. it is small enough to hide behind the toilet. I use many DampRid products in different rooms. You can't beat the price and it lasts a long time - at least several months.

I wanted to give this product a try since I was having problems keeping important papers and other items dry inside my medium size floor mounted safe. When I would open the safe and pullout the documentsame they were always wet with moisture all over the inside. I tried using one of these damp rid containers and have had no moisture problems since. I have been using it a little less than two months and I still have a half full container of absorbent. Once the absorbent is used up, you just empty the water and place a new absorbent pack in.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Neuf350Z A great product
I've used another DampRid product before with great results but but have never used this one with the refillable container. I've also never used one with the "fresh scent" before.
I got this for my basement. While it's not visibly damp down there, it does have that distinct damp smell that many unfinished basements have. And mine has it year-round so I thought I'd give this a try since it's refillable.
I placed this on the floor in the center of my basement and already see it going to work. The white pellets are starting to absorb the moisture. It says that it will last up to 45 days so we'll see if it'll last that long. Honestly, I think this product is too small for a basement because of the potential moisture it will end up absorbing. But that's not the product's fault it's mine for using it in a larger area that it's not really designed for.
As for the scent, it reminds me of moth balls, which is a scent I don't care for. If you use it in a small space like a closet or bathroom, be prepared to be overwhelmed because the fragrance is quite powerful. They do offer a fragrance free product so keep that in mind if you don't like strong scents.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LindaLW update on Damp-Rid review!
I have submitted a review for Damp-Rid before, but I have tried another product that I recently put to the test, and Damp-Rid blew away the competition. I conducted my own test of a similar product, made by Kaboom, that is supposed to help reduce moisture in a specific area, but side to side, the Damp-Rid was far and away the best at collecting moisture! The 2 containers were placed near to each other in a damp closet - the Kaboom was placed 2 weeks before I tried the Damp-Rid, and had collected no moisture whatsoever, but I placed Damp-Rid in the closet and within a week, it had already made a significant collection, whereas the Kaboom showed no sign of liquid at all. I think this explains why the Damp-Rid is the main product sold for such a purpose in most grocery and hardware stores! It works!

Used this product in conjunction with a dehumidifier. Granted, the product can't capture near as much water as the dehumidifier does, so my observation/review is based on the scent/deodorizing factor. I will agree that it (minimally) freshened the space (finished basement); however the product itself, looks horrible as it's being broken-down. The white crystals turn dingy-gray over time and just looks really gross. Not appealing in finished, decorated rooms.
