Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by it gets the wet out. I've got a wet basement, and one of the main culprits is a laundry room with a dirt floor under plywood. no matter what i do, there must be enough groundwater seepage to raise the relative humidity in the basement quite a bit. While the DeLonghi was one of the pricier units i looked at, it had a high capacity and, most importantly, a pump for continuous draining into the utility sink next to it (see pictures). In fact, I had it set up without the pump hose for the first couple of days, and it was filling up the (large) reservoir twice a day. Since it's been running all the time, the RH has dropped in that part of the basement from the high 60s to 43% as of today (and it's still dropping). The only real problem right now (since it's going nonstop) is that it's raising the temperature in the basement (a little annoying in the summer), but this won't be a problem come the colder weather. In fact, it'll be a plus... August 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it's built for Michigan basement needs definitely needs one of these. Working wonders getting the moisture of out of the air! Right now I am manually dumping the tank but will be looking into setting up the pump for draining. May 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Dehumidifier Yet My new Delonghi Dehumidifier works great. I love that I can leave town and know that the unit will continue to work unlike the previous brand I purchased from Wynter. I purchased a Whynter RPD-501WP dehumidifier and was very disappointed with the performance and customer service. After 3 months I received an error message of EC and Wynter told me that it was damaged during delivery. I took it back to Home Depot and purchased my current Delonghi which I love. It is quiet and the pump is fantastic. August 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of Junk! At first glance a great product, but if you are going to use the pump be ready to replace it once a week! On my third pump, each one lasts about a week. Would not recommend to anyone wanting to use the pump. Removes the humidity fine, but I have it in a empty house and need the pump to work, cannot go there once a week to empty container. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by dehumidifier, Delonghi 50 pints This dehumidifier works beautifully delivery was fast set up was easy August 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Beware Delonghi dehumidifiers I purchased the DD50P at the end of the summer season three years ago. The next spring, I used it regularly throughout the spring and summer seasons. Because I was emptying the bucket at least every other day, I connected the hose from the pump to the waste water piping in my basement. And it worked! At the end of the summer, I disconnected the hose from the unit and the waste water pipes, turned it off and put it away. The following spring it started up but no water. The fan ran, the digital readout was normal but no water. I contacted DeLonghi and they said it was no longer under warranty so I was stuck. I found another one on line open boxed and price reduced so I bought it instead of repairing the original one. I bought the same one because I spend a lot of effort to hook up the waste water hose and the second worked right out of the box. I went through the same shut down steps as instructed at the end of the summer last year. When I started it up this year, again, the fan blows, the readout is working but no water. I contacted DeLonghi to ask about repairs and they said the "sealed system" components were still covered by warranty. They gave me the closest shop to my home which was 30 miles away. I dropped them off and got a call back from the repair shop two days later stating that both units needed refrigerant and one has a broken pump. The cost to add refrigerant to each one is $150 plus the cost of a new pump and labor to install it. I contacted DeLonghi to give them a chance to make good on these defective products and they did not. They would only cover the $25 cost of the refrigerant for each one. The labor is $100 each to replace the refrigerant and they would not cover that. Delonghi would not admit that this product is defective despite the performance. Both of these dehumidifiers lost their refrigerant after one season of use. That is very poor performance and I urge you to stay away from this product. Because the repair shop does not find a leak in the sealed system, nothing is covered under warranty. Yet clearly, the refrigerant is leaking out during the off season. Horrible product performance. Stay away! Based on the poor service from their customer service group, I will not buy any Delonghi products anymore and am posting this review everywhere I can to warn other buyers to stay away. They would not return my calls and email. I tried to go up the line of management to give them a chance to make good on these dehumidifiers before I published this warning but they would not respond to me. Beware! August 10, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DeLonghi DD50PE Dehumidifier is Effective but Too Noisy This DD50PE dehumidifier works quite well, except that it often makes a fairly loud, penetrating, high-pitched noise, like a whistle. The pitch is about 550 Hz. I have several of these dehumidifiers, and they all do it, but some more than others. The noise seems to be caused by the air being forced through the grill, so the air vibrates, as it does in a flute. I confirmed this two ways: First, I placed my hand over various parts of the grill, and that caused the intensity of the noise to change. Next, I removed the cover and grill, and confirmed that there is no whistle at all when the grill is removed. But grill is an integral part of the housing, and you cannot leave it off permanently. I find the high-pitched, whistling noise sufficiently annoying that the DeLonghi DD50PE dehumidifier is unacceptable for use in my living area. It's a pity, because otherwise, it's a good dehumidifier. The design engineers should have considered the acoustics, and modified the grill so that it would not whistle. I'm giving it one star, because it doesn't matter how effective it is if it's too noisy to use. January 25, 2015
