Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Butch #9 x 3 in. Tan Polymer-Plated Flat-Head Star Wood Screws
First tried 1 5/8" to put in a sub-floor in a bathroom I was doing. They worked so well bought the 3" for some stud work where I didn't want to use nails. Not a single screw stripped. Also, they're very nicely coated and appears will resist rust. Will use again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HandyMan These Are Much Better Than The Square Drive Grip-Rite Deck Screws.
I have used these without issue. The star drive head rarely if ever strips.
I tried the square drive Grip-Rites and couldn't get them to drive because the square drive heads would strip, and yes I drilled pilot holes and a torqued down drill.
I have very pleased with the star drive Deck Mate screws and highly recommend them.

I've been using Deckmate Star Flat-head Wood Deck Fasteners for years and have had great success with them until today. My husband and I were building a raised vegetable bed out of treated 2x6 and 2x8 lumber and I had a nice new box of #10 3" fasteners we were using. About 50% of them would drive in, then spin because they stripped out the wood. We had a few 3 1/2 inch fasteners left and they worked great. It was just these 3 inch fasteners that have a longer thread and shorter unthreaded shank so they don't grab as well as the other fasteners that have more thread and less shank.
I'm used to having no problems with these fasteners aside from the occasional bent one, but even those drive in and grab. I will not be buying any more of these useless fasteners. I'll stick to other lengths that actually have enough threads to be useful.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by goodheading Best screws I've ever used
I've been using Deckmate brand screws for several years. I rarely have a problem with these screws, and they DO NOT rust like the Grip-rite brand. I like that they're re-useable and self tapping. I've read some of the other reviews that don't like these and wonder if those reviewers are rating the correct product, because the problems described do not sound like this product. The star bit holds very well,-when used properly, and the screws penetrate very well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Robert Excellent all purpose screw
I have a horse ranch and a kennel. I am always needing screws for some type of project. I have used various sizes for working on projects in the barn to building shelters for the kennel. The worst issue I have ever had was a few slightly warped screws in a 5lb box. I have never had an issue with the screws stripping out or the heads breaking off. Some of my projects I countersink the screws and that is not an issue either. You just have to be smarter than the equipment you are working with. Always use the correct bit and keep it strait. I use an adjustable hammer drill around the ranch and never have a problem. I did buy a 5 pack t-25 bits just to use a backups and the bit that comes with the screws is a little short for my drill when I am countersinking screws for a project.

Have used about 25 lbs. worth of these in 2-1/2 & 3 in. lengths and have had no issues. I don't know how some are complaining they striped the head. I seriously haven't had this happen. Great thing I found is I was able to drive these screws without using pilot holes and that saves time. I was driving through 2 in. pressure treated stock into pressure treated 4 x 4 's without a pilot hole. I am using a pneumatic drill at around 100 psi to drive them and I know that's not a tool most would use but this product has been great so far. Only small issue I found is I will run across a screw here and there that has the coating built up in the head so it can't be used but it has been rare. I also don't use the bit they include. I use the longer 2" Dewalt bits. Giving a 4 on quality because honestly, I can't say if they won't rust out over time.
