Does this screw come in SLATE GRAY

Asked by: Andy
HD - you're wrong. This is a green screw. I just ordered them in special and found that out. The photos show 3 grey, and a 4th possibly green. The specs do say green, but the conflicting information made me hopeful. Really though, it came as green. God, I wish I could find a star drive in gray with these dimensions. Nothing so far.

Remove Broken Screw

How do you remove these screws from wood when they snap at the shank and just spin in the hole?
Asked by: Jim
If you can grab the screw with vice grips pliers that would work best. If you cannot grab the screw then you would need to use something like this, it called a screw extractor

#10 x 2-1/2 in. Star Flat-Head Wood Deck Screws (1 lb.-Pack) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst screws money can buy Don't believe all the fake posts about these screws being durable and excellent value. These screws are absolute junk. I am a gardener and use deck screws for all my outside projects. I made a condominium planter box and with the natural movement of the wood, about a half dozen of the screws broke. Unbelievable!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Because you can't rate Zero These screws are the absolute worst. I used them based on the positive reviews and the value. Boy was I a sucker. Value is right out the window as I am replacing my entire deck with Stainless Steel. These screws in my PT deck have broken at a rate of 80%. Tjhey go in for a few days but as you weather the deck you find that the heads start to float. When you try to reset "HELLO" the screw has broken right at the shank/shoulder prior to the thread. These screws are a waste of time and money. If you are building a new PT deck as I was save yourself and just pay the money for better quality hardware as you will spend double the amount of time installing and then replacing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not performed as advertised I built a shed and last fall (I live in CT) with a small 6'x10' landing at the front door. I used these 2.5" screws to attach the 5/4 PT wood decking to the 2x8 joints below, as well as multiple other sizes throughout the project (all just using a battery powered drill). I just went back this summer to add in railings and noticed a few of the screw heads were sticking up proud of the surface. When I went to tighten them down, they spun freely meaning they had broken somewhere. I quickly realized that about half of all the screws used in the 5/4 were broken just below the first thread, providing almost zero holding strength. These screws had only been through a single winter and the first part of a summer before breaking (although they could have broken last fall) which is not acceptable for an item being sold specifically for "decking" purposes. I will be trying another brand of screw (GRK) for future projects as the extra few dollars is easily worth my time of not having to replace these annually. I'd recommend others to avoid this brand as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used for shelving Worked out great, just what I needed to finish up the shelves in my garage. Not a one stripped out either, and no bad ones.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from do NOT buy this junk. do NOT buy this junk. Buy stainless I bought boxes of this junk to make my fence. I think I am building it again for the 3rd time. The screws have broken multiple times. I have boards that out of 6 screws, 5 are broken. I replaced the screws before with some of the leftovers I had. I brought a bunch of broken screws back to Home Depot to get a refund so I can buy stainless (about the same cost) but was told that I have to deal with the manufacturer since I bought 3 months ago. The fence is barely a year old. Can you imagine if I actually used the screws to make a deck?? I used different size screws but only chose to rate this one. They were ALL horrible and broke.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great screw, but inventory limited We are in the midst of replacing the boards on a 1900 sq' deck. My son & I love the product, great grip, seats well in the board, head doesn't strip etc. But we started putting in Phillips Head and Home Depot has moved all of this type of inventory over to Star or other related versions. I would suggest buying all that you need so you don't get caught changing screw types midstream.....was surprised they would phase out Phillips Head. While the project has gone well, pulling out the old screws to attach new boards has been an education. The old cheap screws made the boards break down faster. Life of the decking you use may only be as good as the type of fastener you use.
