We live in Seattle and are looking for post caps that will not turn a dingy brown. Will they eventually turn the green that copper turns?

Answer:
In its natural state, copper breaks down in the elements and develops a patina. In general, copper progresses from a natural salmon color to a series of russet browns and grays, and finally to a blue-green or gray-green patina. To maintain the shiny look, apply a car wax immediately after purchasing the cap, and re-apply every 3 to 6 months. To remove an already tarnished finish, remove the old coating Read More

Can the 4X4" wood victoria copper flat plateau post cap be secured to top of post with an adhesive?

Since the cap is 4X4" and the post is dressed to about 3.5X3.5" it would be easier to center the cap on the post. The builder has beveled the top of the post making it more difficult to center using long screws.
If it is possible to use an adhesive , what would you recommend? I have a dozen posts to cap.

Answer:
The 4" x 4" Victoria Copper Plateau Post Cap has actual internal dimensions of 3.5” x 3.5” – these fit standard 4" × 4" posts, which are also 3.5" × 3.5" actual dimensions. To attach each post cap to a post, apply an exterior-grade construction adhesive to the underside of the post cap, center and place firmly on the post. Good luck!

Answer:
Thank you for expressing interest in the DeckoRail Copper Plateau Post Caps. The difference between the two caps is the species of the wood base. 188907 base is made from pressure-treated pine where 188902 is built from cedar. Both post caps are designed to withstand the elements and perform wonderfully outdoors.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product For The Money My husband I recently fenced two sides of our daughter's back yard (the previous owners had already fenced the other two sides). We are just "do-it-yourselfers", but with every project that we do, we try to use great care in doing it right and get the best possible materials at an affordable price. We needed 13 post caps. So, spending $10 - $15 per cap would have added up to quite a lot of money. We looked a number of places...in stores and online and found nothing that even came close to the quality and attractiveness of this cap for this price. This cap is the perfect finish to the fence at an affordable price. The instructions say to affix to the post with construction adhesive, so we used Liquid Nails, which worked perfectly. I also read that applying car wax initially and every 3 - 6 months will help the caps to keep their nice copper finish. So, we did that, as well. I think these should be sold in Home Depot stores (rather than online only). I would definitely recommend this product. March 31, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Post cap purchase These post caps add a finished-design touch to my fence. They were easy to install and provide protection to the fence posts from the heavy rains we experience here in Oregon. March 24, 2015
