Customer Questions & Answers

Can the yellow pine be painted or has it been treated with a sealant already?

Asked by: SteveJP
I sealed mine with no problem so I would think paint would stay on with no problem

Is the handrail cap needed to keep the rail straight?

Asked by: Piloto
I was going to buy a different style that I would have had to purchase the hand rail, with this kit it was supplied with it. I would think you would not need to purchase them right away but I do think it keep them from warping depending on the length you are using.

I need a stair hand rail that matches the Pressure-Treated 6 ft. Aluminum Southern Yellow Pine Rail Kit. Do they make a stairs kit?
Asked by: George
yes, I bought the stair rail so it was cut at the angle and notched to fit in the brackets, great help, didn't have to try to cut angles

Pressure-Treated 6 ft. Aluminum Southern Yellow Pine Rail Kit is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great look! put this up to please our insurance co.; didn't really want it; but now that its up, it looks great. This kit made it go faster than if we had made some ourselves. Very happy with the results

Rated 1 out of 5 by from warped rails Boards were so warped over half of kits did not have one vertical straight enough to mate up with top rail and needed to be sent back. Ordered 3 times to get enough strait boards to complete deck. Boards crack badly in dry climate if not coated. Look good when up but too much hassle to get a few straight sticks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking rail, great price and easy to install I was originally only looking to use this product for stair rails on my deck but liked them so much I bought rails for the entire deck. They look great and are easy to install.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not perfect As mentioned before, you want to open the package before accepting this product. The top board on mine was curved (twisted), not straight. I kept it anyway, but you can see that the top rail is warped if you really look at it. I liked the hardware.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Value But... These rails look high end after paint and install. However, be prepared to do some patching and filling of dents and dings in the wood. Some of them may have come from shipping but there were too many to have all come from that. I primed and painted them and they look great. I don't think they would have stained very well. Overall a pretty good value.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from handsome but variable quality bought 9 units for a 12' X 30' deck. About half were straight and easy to place. The other half were variably twisted or bowed. With the use of my bracket clamps and creative screwing, I was able to force them back into a reasonable sense of straightness. The end product is pretty good, but be prepared to return some units or tolerate some imperfection.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ordered 3 units. Two of the sets were warped and unusable. Ordered 3 units. Two of the sets were warped and unusable. The wood is of moderate quality and can be stained. Low coast compared with other options, but be willing to send back and wait for replacements.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So-So. Missing parts in 3/5 of the kits ordered. I ordered 5 of these rail kits. They arrived on time, but 3/5 of the kits had missing parts (one didn't have enough of the aluminum rails, 2 others were missing the hardware kits). I needed to cut a couple shorter than 6 feet, so I ended up with enough rails. But, I had to use other parts to replace the missing hardware kits. I got the job done, but missing pieces in 3/5 of the kits is totally unacceptable.
