Americana Decor is great. I've used several different colors of their chalk paints and they all turn out great every single time. I am redoing our current bedroom set to match our new bedspread for our new house and I think primitive is my favorite color so far!
But besides the color looking great, I love this paint because it requires little to no prep work! It will cover absolutely anything. Often just one coat will do, however, just to be safe I usually do two. And it dries in no time! Once you have the first coat on you can get started on the second because it's already completely dry!
Buy this product! You will not regret it! :)

Primitive is a very nice taupe color that would work well with warm grays and your basic beiges. I have worked with chalk paint before and this was similar although it seemed a little thicker than other brands. I used this paint over the stain blocker/sealer from this same line. Which may have had an effect on how smoothly it went on. I thinned the paint with water in a container before using a good (Purdy) brush and a foam roller to apply it. I didn't want brush strokes to show and they didn't. The paint went on smooth, but it took 2 coats to get the opaque coverage I wanted. It was easy to use and easy clean up. A little went a long way, so I believe this is a good value.

Ok I must admit it was my first time using the Chalk paint. After reading reviews I was reluctant to try this brand, but it's easy to obtain & I jumped in. I started my first project on an old chair off my dads boat. It sits in a corner of my guest room w a chair cover over it the fabric was so yuck and dated, but good bones. If something went wrong I knew I could just throw the cover back over it& forget about it.
I was pleasantly relieved to see how well the paint covered the fabric, low odor I did the project in my house w a drop cloth, sanded in garage though. It looks AmaZing!, so easy I can't wait to get my hands on the next piece. I highly recommend to any Pinterest Pinner, this is where I read how to do the painting & got my inspiration. I am just waiting for my stencil to come in the mail to complete the project.
I don't know how the "other brands of paint " preform , but I was completely Happy w this line from Home Depot.

I have to be honest,I was afraid to use this on my bathroom vanity. I wanted a distressed look, and that's what I got.

I used this paint to refinish my maple cabinets. A good wash down and minimal sanding were the only prep needed. Not only is this a low odor, water clean up product, it dries incredibly fast and has a mild smell. It covered well with 3 very thin coats and 1 coat of cream wax over the top. I am totally happy with the finished product, it is smooth and has a great velvety finish.

I used to cover old kitchen cabinets. No sanding or priming and Crema Wax has made them water resistant. A great way to extend the life of the cabinets until we are ready for a major renovation.
