Customer Questions & Answers

How much area does the 8oz cover

Asked by: Cathy
According to DecoArt's website, "An 8 ounce jar covers approximately 60 square feet on sealed surfaces." However, you might want to buy extra to be safe, especially if you're covering a dark color, or plan on painting on a coat of Kilz. Sometimes with old furniture that's a good idea anyway, as it will help block any finish that might bleed through the chalk paint.

I think I just write these reviews to show off my work ;-) but seriously, I do love the Americana Decor Chalk Paints. They go on very easily with a brush and dry quickly. When I got this color I decided to refresh an old MDF tray that I'd been using in my Kitchen. It was showing some wear and had a "beach" theme, which isn't really me, so I painted over it with 2 coats of Refreshing. I love this color because it is a close match for the aqua Kitchenaid and Cuisinart appliances in my kitchen. It's a bit greener than that aqua, but close enough. You could probably mix Refreshing an Serene to get a closer match, but it's close enough for me. I transferred a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson and used a paint pen over that to darken the transfer. Finally, I sealed everything with a coat of Americana Decor Creme Wax (Clear). Very happy with the end result and so will share photos!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Affordable alternative to Annie Sloane I was very glad to find an affordable alternative to the Annie Sloane chalk paint. Although I haven't used Annie Sloane to be able to compare, I will say this paint wasn't as wonderful to use as the glowing reports of the Annie Sloane products. I did appreciate not having to do any prep and cleanup was easy. Fumes were minimal - but there were some. However I had to apply two coats even over a light wood finish. Also, the end produce left me underwhelmed - doesn't look as fantastic as all those pictures on the internet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inviting color Paint is paint in general terms and this product is no different in terms of wear, weathering, and usage. This paint does offer an inviting color palette (pastel green) with "chalky white," highlights to give a unique aged or antique final look. The jar is 8 oz in size and would be good for small projects also, don't the the term "finish," throw you off, it is a paint and you will need to prep accordingly, and plan to use more than one coat in some situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice accenting paint. I got this paint in a soft green color to use as an accent color on a dresser I repainted. It is a nice paint and great to use as an accent. The chalky finish is great for a soft accent to highlight without a shine. The 8 oz size is a good size for an item such as a dresser where you don't need a large can and there is little waste. (The directions say it covers up to 60 sq. ft. on a sealed surface.) I found it dries quickly and used two coats as I was painting over a dark color. It cleans well with soap and water. I will use this product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great paint, very unique I absolutely love it! The soft finish is gorgeous. It covers very well, but will go a bit farther and cover even better if thinned with a little bit of water. It is very thick. The color is gorgeous! You should definitely use a clear coat like Polycrylic because it needs the protection and other clear coats will yellow the chalk paint (usually only in white). I have used this for many other projects and will try it soon on a guitar for a vintage look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chalky Paint I'm an artist and this is my first time using chalk paint. I really couldn't tell what color I was choosing and I received a very light sort-of patina green. The paint is a bit thicker but goes on smoothly and is opaque. It sands well (lightly) and gives wood an aged look. I'm not too happy with the color but I like the paint. It almost has a velvety feel and is very matte/flat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beuatiful pastel green color. Americana Decor "Refreshing" Chalky Finish is a beautiful pastel green color. I am useing as an accent to help refresh a a weathered cabinet , and it is a perfect complement to the Chalky Finsh Lace. It is easy to apply and washes off with soap and water.
