Hello Bailey,
Thank you for your inquiry. This security system does has a USB port allowing footage to be backed up directly onto a USB Thumb Drive. The cameras themselves do not have a USB port and instead are connected to the DVR with a BNC video connection.

I only really need two cameras and would hold on to the others as a backup set set rather than buying extra cable. Can I reuse the cables to extend the distance or are the cable m/m or f/f?

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. You are unable to connect the original cameras together to create a longer cable. You would need to purchase our extension cables (21007, 21008. 21009) to use with the cable that came with your camera. Each camera can have a maximum cable length of 195 feet.

No from what I've seen. The adaptations are different. Unless there's an adaptor you can use. But one end is red and the other is yellow.

Matty, I had to extend one of my cameras by adding one 65'extention to it for a total of 130' but you can not go any longer than that on any one camera. I had to buy an extension cable but I'm pretty sure you can use the other cords for the cameras you are not using, 65 feet not meters

8-Channel 500GB HDD Surveillance System with (4) 600 TVL Cameras and 100 ft. of Night Vision is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cameras for the price, night vision could be better, but work great with additional lighting I bought these cameras about a year ago to prevent break-ins at my cabin. They have truly served there purpose. I haven't had one break in since I installed the cameras. But if you are installing them for remote viewing like I did... make sure you make you IP address static. I forgot to do this and had to wait until my next trip up before I could get them set up for remote viewing. Installation was very easy as far as hardware goes. Make sure not to over tighten the bolts though. Broke the first camera I installed and had to get a new one. They have great pictures during the day, and at night they have a pretty decent close up shot. But not far away shots are a pretty blurry on when viewing remotely. But that may also have something to do with internet connection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Caught my theif in 2 weeks I purchased this system after someone stole all my solar lights & some landscape decorations from my yard. Within two weeks of installing this system, I caught my (ex husband) theif once again stealing items from my yard. The night vision quality was excellent & there is no mistaking who the theif is (I was afraid the system would show a grey figure). I could not be happier with the video quality & the police are charging my theif with larceny, stalking & malice destruction of property. On the con side, the cameras lose signal every hour for about 60 seconds & set-up was not easy. If you need to record the video onto a dvd, you have to run an additional cable to your router. There is no USB jack on the DVR (this cost me an additional $110 to have done). Once the cable was ran there are several steps that need to take place to turn the fotage into a video & place on the DVD. Even with this headache, the system is well worth it due to the outstanding night vision. I would love to add the video to this review but we are still going thru the legal process.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value Cameras have good resolution and render colors well. Night vision is also surprisingly good. The only issue has been with the camera mounting. I wanted to mount under eves, but camera mounts don't facilitate upside down mounting, so different mounts were used. I haven't yet tried viewing via smartphone or via internet. Remote control is not the best, but the included mouse allows for easy control between screens and menus. I added additional (wireless) cameras for very remote areas of my property with good results. Now with 8 cameras, I wished I had gone with a larger storage capacity unit of 1TB or higher. Overall a good value - especially when on sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product by Defender Before mounting everything outside, I benched tested the entire system. Set up was easy and instructions are easy to follow. The video pictures are good quality with plenty of control. The best feature is the "Motion Detection". By selecting specific areas on the screen to look for movement, this will start the recording in stead of recording everything. It also makes it easier to located events through out the day. The internet set up was a little more complicated but works great. I would highly recommend this system for personl security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can see faces. Easy to hook-up. Fairly easy to use. HARDWARE: Right out of the box was real easy to set-up. Just plug and play. Wiring may take awhile depending on your application. SOFTWARE: Learning curve viewing is fair- easy for the most part but I was confused on a couple items like setting the motion only playback and replaying but I used the computer help guide and got thru it. Saving the video is easy with a flash memory stick placed into the convenient USB they provide but to view it on your computer, you have to download their software and then use this software to convert the file to a format Windows (or Mac) can read- I only swore twice. But after it is on the computer you can use as you would any Windows video- nice. I then used a separate video software (a free video editor from Windows) to edit it (shorten it for the police). VIDEO QUALITY: Faces were good enough in low light to identify faces! Have not used in no light with the LED illumination but looks good on Youtube. Defender 8ch 600 TV Lines. Using it at home. VALUE: At less than 350 USD it was a BEST DEAL thru my research. All I wanted was 4 Camera so I could add other types later (maybe sound or...) COMMENTS: >Like the mouse AND the remote. >I hooked it directly to an old Computer monitor. >Save video onto my computer. >Sound on one channel only. >Need VEGA connection for all features but works OK with RCA connections to a TV too. CONCLUSION: We caught our thief by hiding two cameras. Now we are putting them in plain sight to deter. Good enough viewing quality for any home and most businesses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good distance I bought this knowing that I would find the most benefit from its use at night. When I first got it I tested the visibility down the street at night. I was shocked that the camera was able to pick up a decent image about half a block away. Would I be able to positively identify someone with the footage from half a block away? Probably not, however if it were a question of a short, stout person versus a tall, thin person you would certainly be able to make that distinction. My brother, who installs CCTVs and low voltage security systems commercially, was impressed with the quality of the picture, especially for the money we spent. My husband, a police officer, said that the quality of the footage from our cameras is better than most of the cameras found in the retail locations where he patrols. I highly recommend allowing for the extra channels when trying to decide between the 4 CH and the 8 CH. I never see it as a wise decision to limit yourself when the price difference is not that great. We wanted to add an additional camera (bringing us to 5 total) and with the open channels it was a breeze. Also, my brother recommended to me not to go with anything less than 600 TVL. I hope you are able to find the same satisfaction with your purchase as we have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good cameras I waited to do the review until I had the cameras up for over a month. We have had no problems with them or the DVR. We ran our wires through a small hole on the outside of our house into the atic and then over to the room that I have the DVR in. We ran the wires down the inside of an inside wall (no insulation) and through an opening we made by the baseboard. The cameras have really good clarity and color during the day. They go black and white at night and you can see very good. We have one mounted on our house, aimed at our workshop and I can see it very well, it is about 80 feet away. You can see quite far on them all. The only thing we noticed is if you have an area that is very shaded or real bright with sunshine you may need to adjust the color to brighten or dim. We have 5 outside and one inside in a sunroom. I would recommend the 36 LED lights on the cameras, these really almost look like we have a light on outside or in the sunroom. Also I wanted the 600 TVL. I had tried the 400 TVL and you get a much better picture with the higher TVL. We are very pleased with them. I would recommend that if you want to call the defender company, to call early. I had trouble reaching a person. I also used the "chat" feature and got a reply. They are not as accessable as some companies. We live in the country and because I can see so good and so far, it really gives me peace of mind. I just turn on my tv and change the input to VCR and all my cameras are on rotate. The DVR has many features and it is understandable. It has a mouse and a remote. These cameras do not mount on a ceiling only on a wall. We have them set on motion activation. They are well built and good size. We have no complaints and our glad that we bought them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought this on sale Great setup, love the night vision and day light clarity. only problem's (2) #1camera mounting template is wrong. the upper two holes need to be raised 1/4 inch otherwise screws will slide through upper mounting holes. easy fix. #2 poor instructions on program setup, if you go online to their website its not much better than the manual, very diffucult to understand not to mention does not cover all the funtions of their program. would recommend but be prepard to do a lot of head scratching.
