Did lots of research before purchase. Overall reviews were good so I gave it a shot! I am well pleased! Picture quality is great! Only problem I encountered was the cameras only adjust up and down so you cannot adjust horizontal! But overall a great purchase!!

easy to get cameras running after running cables backwards. Must read the directions to set date and time on the dvr or it will show an older date. other than that issue it works great. would purchase again. it came with a 16 channel dvr and not a 4 channel so I can add cameras later without changing dvr.

I purchased this 4 camera system in Jan.2016. The cameras were easy to install. The computer connection was near impossible, I hired a computer guru to help, after several hours the system was functioning. It worked for about a month and now it is inoperable. Yes I am disappointed.

I bought this a month ago. Installation is straightforward but quality poor and Defender sent me faulty cables, a common problem according to the employee at defender whom it took me over 2 hours to get on the phone. Then because I ordered on-line through home depot they couldn't just send me new cables (a short splitter so worth pennies). All told I lost several days worth of work trouble shooting, being on hold with both home-depot and defender. Home depot is quick to answer, defender almost impossible to get on the phone, spent 45 minutes on hold were they repeated "you are next in line, your wait time is approximately 1 minute" (same message for 45 minutes!) then hung up. Very frustrating!!!

3 Stars only because my cameras are not hooked up yet. I received this system within a week of my order. However, I was unaware that the TVs in my house would not support the DVR. My TV says resolution does not match. I emailed Tech Support asking my options and was told "you need to connect the DVR to a monitor that supports the resolution of the DVR. Please note that if you are trying to connect the DVR with an HDMI cable, the monitor must support 1920x1080 to be compatible. We would recommend connecting it with a different cable". They responded to my email within a few hours. So thumbs up on Tech Support. I am still a little unsure of what kind of monitor I need or if I should send this back and get a different kind. I have not got to see any picture from the cameras due to my issue but the cameras feel very durable.

recently purchased this item and when I got it home I bench tested all the cameras, found one that was bad (night vision didnt work right) so I reached out to the company. Three customer service agents later, they wanted ME to pay to ship them the camera, which would be about a week's travel time, then they said it would be up to several weeks to get me a replacement. I thought it was a bit ridiculous to have a customer pay to ship back a defective product that was bad out of the box.
The hardware that is used to tighten the joints on the camera is cheap, and protrudes from the connection in three points. I didnt want to wait several weeks for a replacement camera so I could complete the install so I ended up taking it back to home depot and getting an instock Qsee system. When I ordered the defender product I had to have it shipped, I chose ship to store which was nice but took about a week. Also, the defender boxes were unsealed when I received them (find that odd for buying electronics and getting unsealed boxes) the qsee box was factory sealed and everything works great out of the box. Qsee offers a better standard warranty. If you check the reviews for defender most are from their website, I later learned that they offer a free additional year of warranty if you leave them a review, I suspect only favorable reviews are accepted for that offer to be provided to the customer.
I also got the Home Deport warranty on the new system, which gives you an additional 3 years on top of the manufacturers warranty. The folks at home depot were great about taking the Defender product back. By the way, when I called defender, I wasnt able to reach a live person, its all recording.
I should note, that after calling them out via email and asking to be forwarded to a Supervisor about the ridiculousness of having a customer pay to send back a defective out of the box item, they eventually did provide a shipping label for me to return it on their dime, but it still would have taken probably 2 weeks minimum to get it replaced. I had already returned it to the store and switched brands by the time I received the label. We use Qsee at work and have not had any problems with them and have had DVR's from them last years.
