Answer:
Wireless security systems are like wireless wi-fi routers, you still need to plug in a wireless router. A battery operated camera would not last for this type of application.

Thank you for your inquiry. The cameras must be plugged into an AC outlet in order to work. They transmit a wireless signal to the receiver which plugs into the DVR to record.

Hello Nicho, thank you for your inquiry. While the DVR does have an audio input, our cameras do not have audio pickups. You can, however, connected audio equipped cameras that are not of Defender make, as long as they have BNC type connections.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 167 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sensitive I live on a thorough fare street that has cars drive by daily. This camera is basic for what you need if you don't set the 4 cameras in motion alarm. I set the camera to be motion detected and it worked as intended. It alerts you by email when someone or something triggers the sensor. The drawback is how sensitive even at its lowest level. It was so sensitive that even a little wind will trigger it. I was getting email alerts every minute. Images were good. So if you want a basic camera with no frills to check your surrounding home this will be it otherwise a professional grade may be an option if you want to spend the bucks. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Like looking out a window So easy to assemble/hook-up. The quality is amazing for the price. It's like looking out a window, the clarity is that good. Reviewing previous footage is also a breeze. This system couldn't have been made any user friendly than it is. I am a 54 y.o. woman, had the cameras up and plugged in within 15 minutes (the ladder work took me the longest time), and the rest of the system hooked up and running in about 10 minutes after camera installation. I am a very happy customer. February 29, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great System but having problems with cameras freezing. Installed the Defender system (Pro) in January. Worked great until last month (May 2016). Cameras are freezing although the time frame for the camera is correct. This happens at least once a day. The only way to get things working is by rebooting (powering down). Could not locate a customer support phone number from their website. Sent them an email a week ago seeking help to resolve my problem, no response (in this day and age). Love the system (if I can get it to work reliably again) but product support after purchase is nil! June 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A little disappointed in the camera mounting The only fault I had with this entire system was that the cameras will not work with the mounting base anchored to the ceiling. It must be anchored to the wall. No matter how the camera is adjusted the image will be upside down. The troubleshooting manual addresses this specifically. I was attempting to anchor to the soffit around my house, which would have been ideal, but ended up having to anchor to the wall which is stucco; less than ideal. Other than that, the setup was very easy and the cameras paired with their receivers automatically. June 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Defender Wireless Pro 4 Channel System the system is really wonderful and does the job I needed it to do. set up is very easy, and the overall picture quality is very good and the Night vision is outstanding. the only draw back I have had is that the power supply cords for the cameras shorted out after 7 months or so, due to rain getting inside the housing. it rolled down the wires and seeped inside, if placed where rain would run away from housing or its covered by a flower pot to keep weather away it would be to your benefit. Overall I'd buy the Defender products again. The Customer service was great and Suzzane was so helpful in taking care of helping locate my purchase info and taking care of the warranty claim. The power cords were replaced free of charge. May 15, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not what I expected. need additional equipment I thought I could use this system with only my smart phone and equipment purchased. Not the case. Had to buy an additional monitor tried using tv with hdmi and it would not accept resolution. No person to talk to on support just a recording. Did eventually get some one on live chat. Read all the fine print. once hooked up and working after a week of trying to install. Works pretty decent. downloading onto flash drive from dvr is no cake walk and you almost need a degree in IT. Would recommend to younger generation but not for baby boomers June 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Say good bye to your internet Installed this at my house. Pretty easy to do by yourself. Bad news is, my wireless internet went kaput the minute the system worked. Nothing but 5g and that to, only working about 5 ft from the router. Returned it after trying everything but buying a 5g only router. Looking for a replacement now. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install; easy to use. I made my purchased after web site investigation and settled on the Defender after having read customer reviews indicating the simplicity of setting up the system; hence, my surprise after receiving my set and down loading the 71 page manual. I was daunted and hesitant; but, after a day of reflection I took it piecemeal and to my dismay discovered that it was really intuitive. Anyone who has hooked up a desk model PC is able to set up this style. I had the cameras wired for power by an electrician, as I wanted all wiring to be behind walls. It took that technician about two hours. Once, set up the system is as advertised. Now all I have to do is at my leisure peruse those 71 pages of the manual so as to employ the nuances, which my initial reading leads me to anticipate a myriad of easily made adjustments and combinations of usage.
