Answer:
Wireless security systems are like wireless wi-fi routers, you still need to plug in a wireless router. A battery operated camera would not last for this type of application.

Thank you for your inquiry. The cameras must be plugged into an AC outlet in order to work. They transmit a wireless signal to the receiver which plugs into the DVR to record.

Hello Nicho, thank you for your inquiry. While the DVR does have an audio input, our cameras do not have audio pickups. You can, however, connected audio equipped cameras that are not of Defender make, as long as they have BNC type connections.

Connected Pro Wireless 4-Channel Surveillance System with 1TB Hard Drive and 4 Wireless 520 TVL Cameras is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 171.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little disappointed in the camera mounting The only fault I had with this entire system was that the cameras will not work with the mounting base anchored to the ceiling. It must be anchored to the wall. No matter how the camera is adjusted the image will be upside down. The troubleshooting manual addresses this specifically. I was attempting to anchor to the soffit around my house, which would have been ideal, but ended up having to anchor to the wall which is stucco; less than ideal. Other than that, the setup was very easy and the cameras paired with their receivers automatically.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Say good bye to your internet Installed this at my house. Pretty easy to do by yourself. Bad news is, my wireless internet went kaput the minute the system worked. Nothing but 5g and that to, only working about 5 ft from the router. Returned it after trying everything but buying a 5g only router. Looking for a replacement now.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sensitive I live on a thorough fare street that has cars drive by daily. This camera is basic for what you need if you don't set the 4 cameras in motion alarm. I set the camera to be motion detected and it worked as intended. It alerts you by email when someone or something triggers the sensor. The drawback is how sensitive even at its lowest level. It was so sensitive that even a little wind will trigger it. I was getting email alerts every minute. Images were good. So if you want a basic camera with no frills to check your surrounding home this will be it otherwise a professional grade may be an option if you want to spend the bucks.

Overall, it's a good system as far as cameras go - the images are clear, the nightvision is good and the transition is fast. One major issue though: its wireless signal operates on the 2.4GHz band using analog (not 802.11 WiFi). Sending four channels of video at this resolution over that frequency will wreck the performance of your 2.4GHz WiFi network, and possibly that of your neighbors' because it looks like very heavy noise to the router. If your WiFi ecosystem is entirely 5GHz, you can avoid the issue, but that's rare for most people - many common WiFi devices only support 2.4GHz. It's a dealbreaker for me. Other issues: It's really just a wired system which has BNC connectors on the back of the DVR which connect via cable to some remote wireless transmitters. You need one of these wired external adapters per pair of cameras. It's rather bulky vs a design where the DVR contains the wireless transmitter internally. I suppose they did this for manufacturing simplicity to keep the DVR the same between their wired and wireless systems. The metal on the cameras is very soft pot metal, and it strips easily. The tapped finish is rough enough that it's hard to tell if a bolt is at the end or if you're stripping it. The paper templates included for drilling holes where the cameras will mount didn't actually match the mounting pattern of the camera itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like looking out a window So easy to assemble/hook-up. The quality is amazing for the price. It's like looking out a window, the clarity is that good. Reviewing previous footage is also a breeze. This system couldn't have been made any user friendly than it is. I am a 54 y.o. woman, had the cameras up and plugged in within 15 minutes (the ladder work took me the longest time), and the rest of the system hooked up and running in about 10 minutes after camera installation. I am a very happy customer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever This was difficult to hook up.Had to buy extra equipment for it. First one was defective, would not power up.hassel getting it straightened out and had to order exactly the same thing because of paying with a gift card. Would absolutely NOT recommend this surveillance system to anyone. Very displeased with it.But am stuck with it because of paying with gift card.will not order on line from here again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy set up great value for peace of mind I consider myself handy, can accomplish most repairs around the house fairly confidently and somewhat technical... That being said, this product was simple to set up and easy to install. The hardest part of setting this system up was drilling through the exterior of my house... I have had only 1 issue with the product and that is that the wifi of the system is on the same 2.4Ghz as my home's 2.4Ghz and it does cause delays in our home's wifi. I am currently trying to get that fixed as our internet provider does offer a router that operates on 5Ghz.
