Do you have to reset it everyday in order for the lights to come on? For example: if i put the pins down today for a timeframe of 5pm to 12am, do I need to reset it again tomorrow for the same timeframe?

or would it come back on by itself after i set it up the first time?

Answer:
you might need to turn the dial to adjust some pins, especially if a pin is around the time you set the dial to. make sure you set the time of the dial to the actual time so when the settings hit it works.

Have tried pushing, prying, gave up on fingernails and switched to a little screwdriver - the segments refuse to move! Is there some trick to this? Nobody else has complained, so I'm probably an idiot. But also, the instructions say I may have to turn the dial clockwise in order to access the desired segments. Huh? They are all clearly visible!

The first thing I had to do was pull up on all the buttons. Then push back down the ones corresponding to the times that you want the light to come on. Hope that helps. If one is difficult to raise, rotate the dial away from the current time arrow and try again.

The pins are built into the unit; they are part of the dial. Just use your fingernail to pull up, your fingertip to push down.

I bought this particular one because I needed a grounded outlet, not a regular two-prong outlet. The timer itself seems to be working great, been using it about a month. The whole thing is a little cheap-feeling, but it works. It is pretty slim fitting and it's nice that there's no separate pieces you can lose. The resolution on the timer dial isn't great, so don't expect to be setting times down to the minute.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chinese copy of Intermatic standard While this knock-off is currently working, only time will tell if it can outlast the 15 year old Intermatic version it replaced. Gone are the simple red and green adjustable triggers. This version relies on the lifting of several segments and the depression of the rest to determine the on/off durations. My only gripe is that the segments are a pain to adjust without a long fingernail or skinny object.

When I attempted to setup the time for exterior seasonal lighting it would not work. After reviewing all setup instructions I found that to activate the time I needed to lift all tabs and then push down only those use to set on/off times. This is completely opposite to most timers I have used. Seems to function properly once set up however just seems to be an odd setup.
