Horrible instructions for setting manual times for devices! The HomeDepot.com website does not offer a video on instructions to set up timer! Go to You Tube and find your product with model number. I bought a Defiant Daylight Adjusting Heavy Duty Timer Model # 49808....of course there wasn't a video for that model and brand. I did find a GE brand that had the same display and buttons. I will test it out on an outlet and see if it works. I want to have my wifi internet turn off at night while I sleep and turn back on in the morning when I need it. Good luck if you purchase this product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Billl Very flexible, brief instructions
This unit provides daylight savings auto adjust, a sunrise sunset program, and 7 independent on off programs. To do this, you need to set the clock time, the year, month, and day and if DST is used. You also need to set one of 4 Latitude zonesfor the sunrise sunset feature. Each of these requires use of the set and up down buttons. The instructions cover this, but are somewhat brief. If you don't need all of these features then consider a simpler timer. I especially like the day select feature for each of the seven programs: You can select to set an on off cycle daily, on a specific day, on weekdays, on weekends, or on alternating days. The instructions don't explain this well. I set my timer to be on all the time except to turn off for one minute each week. The program is for Monday only, on at 6:01, off at 6:00. The final trick is to toggle to the auto setting just after the on setting. If you plug in a lamp, you can see that the on off button cycles on, auto, off, auto, on and so on. My program is useful for power cycling an Internet modem and router to get it to reset after a service failure. Not so hard to program once you understand it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by dtsv Way too difficult to program
This is way too complicated to program. I purchased 2 of them and could not program them even looking at the video. My son who is into electronics and is 40 years old had difficulty with the first one and the second one he could not program.

A nuisance to program, difficult to read display, and like another reviewer stated, it simply quit working one day.

I like the look and feel of this timer, though it's a little bulky but built quality is solid and good deal for two outlets. Agreed it's confusing to set up timer and programming at first. Watching you tube postings below from part 1 to 6 helps to get familiar with most of its functions. What really helps me understanding it all after watching 6 short video clip is reading manual included with unit or posted on same product page, product overview, instructions/assembly link in pdf. Hope this will setup this timer little easier and less frustrated.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Polarbear Difficult to program
I think sun up/ sun down is a waste and adds additional unnecessary steps. Should just have to set on/off times. Two outlets is nice but there should have seperate timing available. Why woul I want 2 lights in the same room to go on and off at the same time? Separating them would give a more varied appearance of someone being home.

Worked like a charm once I figured out how to program it. Than as soon as the warranty ran out it started malfunctioning. I sets itself to Sunday 01/01/12 12:00 pm and stays until I reset the time and reprogram it. Then the programming and time keeping lasts a couple of days and then its back to Sunday 01/01/12 12:00 pm. Glad I only paid about $12 for it. Garbage!!

Insanely complicated to program. It offers an instructional video on how to program by going to homedepot.com and entering the model number. I did that, but there is no instructional video.
