Phillips Par38 Dimmable daylight bulbs worked fine.
Make sure to connect ground wire to ground. Some electronics are very touchy about not having the ground connected.

It depends on the mfr and model of the LED. I have two (2) Feit BR30/DM/LED LED Dimmable BR30 Reflector LED bulbs on my system and they work. I tried EcoSmart LEDs and they flickered. I can not explain the difference in circuitry of the bulbs , but one works and the other does not.

All LED bulbs are not compliant with all controlling(motion sensor) devices. The MFR recommends Halogen or Incandescent bulbs.

Accidentally cut wire with screw when installing it. Shortening wire actually made it easier to install with the pancake box.

If you are asking this questions then you need to get an electrician to install it for you. Electricity is serious and should not be "played" with by anyone that doesn't have a basic understanding of the dangers. The instructions are very clear as how to install the fixture.

Yes, as needed. Set switch to "Test" and it will override the photocell.

The sensor controls are on the bottom of the motion detector. I had problems making out what controls what and had to get my reading glasses due to the small size of the lettering.

Changing the sensor is basic wiring. You only need some wire nut (orange). However, the new sensor cost the same or more then the whole unit.

Customer Reviews

180 Degree Black Motion-Sensing Outdoor Security Light is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation! I don't know if the customers that gave this product a bad review had a faulty light but I had no problem at all with the installation and operation. I actually installed the light during half-time on a Sunday while watching football and it took no more than 15 to 20 minutes. I installed the light on my patio to replace an existing backyard light which wasn't giving me enough coverage over my yard, especially to track my dog whenever I let him out in the wee hours of the morning or for nighttime grilling. This light not only covers my grill area but nearly the entire yard. The only minor setback was the controls are on the bottom of the motion sensor and were in small letters and kind of hard to read, but with the help of my reading glasses I was able to set the controls to my preferences and the light works like a charm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Design - Contineous Flash Having read similar reviews, I'm echoing my experience with this product. Lights continually FLASH despite using every conceivable switch combination on the device. Installation was under an eave which in fact may be part of the problem. Given the way an under eave installation has to be made, the lights align on almost the same level as the sensor. Combine that fact with the 180 degree sensor field of view and you've potentially got a big problem. The device appears better suited for a wall mount with the sensor sitting in a more favorable position with respect to the lights (i.e. - out of the way). Will try using the model with a more narrow sensor beam to see if that's indeed the problem. For those considering an application other than the one shown in the picture - stay away from this model. It likely won't work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from LED Usage ECOSmart LED PAR38 bulbs do not work in this fixture. The light goes into constant flicker mode. Home Depot advertises these are compatable, but a call to Customer Service reveals that they indeed will not work.

First one had the motion sensor fail almost immediately. Defiant replaced it via warranty. The warranty motion sensor failed almost immediately. The second one lasted a little longer but failed as well. Light just stays on constantly even on the lowest setting. Very poor light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Continuously Flashing I purchased the lights at home depot and installed it on a 20 foot high fixture, took me half a day. When turned on the lights are continuously flashing. Changing switch positions makes no difference. Now I have to spend another half day to bring the fixture down and go get another one from home depot. AVOID.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good motion-detection light Easy choice for me, I was replacing a previous fixture so the necessary wiring and mounting box were already in place. Installed easily, works as advertised. Will probably buy two or three more for other outdoor areas that need motion-sensing lighting.

I installed 2 of these and for some reason they were both stuck in the "flash" mode. Anything and EVERYTHING I did to correct the issue and get them to operate normally was unsuccessful. Just before I was about to rip them off the wall and return both for credit, I tried replacing one of the 2 LED flood lamps I had installed with a regular 85W lamp. That seems to have resolved the issue. Apparently this model / brand is not compatible with LED flood lamps and requires some minimum amount of current draw to work correctly. Presently, each has 1 LED 22W lamp and 1 85W conventional lamp installed and they now function as I expected. If I had it to do over again, I would skip the "flash" function models as this appears to be somewhat useless and detrimental to proper / expected operation of the motion sensors. Length of ownership for both is about 6 weeks. I was disappointed that they are only available in white or black. A bronze color would be a better option and look better with brick. Motion detection range is less than the stated by a large amount but acceptable for my intended purpose.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flashes no matter the settings No matter what settings I use when the light comes on it just flashes. I have tried all and the ones instructed for constant on when in security mode don't work. Don't Buy
