Rated 2.4 out of 5 by 85 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk These lights are junk. I have had 2 of these units & both failed within weeks of installation. They are allegedly waterproof & approved for outdoor usage, however that is a joke. The 1st unit started flashing on/off at night after rain got into the bulbs & sensor. Home Depot did replace it. The replacement unit has malfunctioned & stays on all the time unless the circuit breaker is turned off. I will have to scramble up my ladder again to remove the unit & take it back to Home Depot (35 miles away) & will look for another manufacturer with the hope of better quality. When I mounted this 2nd unit, I used waterproof wiring connectors as well as a bead of silicone around the base to ensure it was watertight. August 15, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by selling same light but two models (one defective & one re-engineered) I bought two of these lights and installed them 20ft up on the outside of a big RV garage. They seemed well made and the installation was fairly easy providing you know what you are doing. I was so impressed that I went online to see if HD had two more to buy. I was shocked when I read all the negative comments about how poor the sensor is and how it turns on during the daytime. I then looked outside and sure enough one of the lights was turning on and off in the sunlight. There is no sensitivity adjustment. What upset me more was that HD is selling the same light at the same price but with a different sensor that looks like it has been upgraded and they are also selling the version that gives problems. Suggest you buy the online version with a different sensor SKU # 624956. October 6, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stopped working properly I bought one of these lights 2 1/2 years ago. I was replacing a regular outdoor activated light that used two 150 watt lights. It was east to install and I was amazed at the amount of light that it put out. I also liked the idea of saving money on my energy bill. Now after 2 1/2 years of it working great, it has started to go on during the day for no reason. At night it will go on like it should when I walk past it, but turn right back off. I think the sensor that tells the lamp if its dark or light out is failing. It still senses movement like it should. I was hoping to be able to just replace the sensor part of the light, but have not been able find one available. September 4, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do Not Purchase This model has been replaced with a newer model with a Doppler Motion Sensor. Don't waste your money, sensor stopped working. I have 2 faulty units and have been working with HP for 2 months to get a replacement. I would like to get an upgrade and pay the difference, but that is not an option for HP. As of today my replacements have NOT shipped. HP is to get back to me in a few days. August 5, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by What a total waste of my time, energy and money! Had been impressed with the intense brightness of this model among all others at HD. I needed a replacement for a five year old motion activated light that had burnt out and just hadn't been all that bright in the first place. So, after installing this new one, I of course read the instructions regarding testing and making adjustments, but the darn light just wouldn't turn off unless I cut the power to it. I called the number on the manual and have yet to hear back and left another message expressing my frustration. Thinking the light had a defective sensor, I again had purchased the same model ... well, well, well, after yet more of my time and effort and travelling many miles back and forth to the store and then reinstalling the new fixture, the dang thing is doing the same thing! I'm an acreage owner with a never ending load of work to do and also a caregiver to an aging parent, so something needless like this really irks me big time, HD should pull these from the shelves! I'm not new to motion activated lights, I have others on the house, these Defiant lights had come defective from the factory and Defiant should send me a substantial credit for my hours of wasted time and energy! Come on, provide better testing and quality control of your products! July 29, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by I should have read the reviews This is a pricey product - probably because of the LED lights. I had an electrician install it over my driveway in the daytime because he had to run cable through my attic. Once he left and I tested it at dusk, I found it was VERY bright. Be aware. I mean construction-workers-working-at-night bright. Fortunately my neighbors told me they love it, as they only have a bathroom window on that side and it was previously very dark, and my driveway offers an access point to that window. I've noticed the product is "testy" - light activates for apparently no reason. It initially stayed on for the time I proposed - about 6 minutes, but kept coming on. I went out and I notice it did not come on until I was almost under it. But then it would come on when cars would drive by. Because it was so bright, I wanted to decrease the time and re-angle the lights more inward toward the house. I should have left well enough alone, because now that I've done that, it worked for one night , but now has stopped working altogether. Last night i waved a broom at the sensor- nothing. I"m sure I have it less than 12 ft from the ground per the instructions. I'm thinking of returning it after I troubleshoot and take one last trip up the ladder. If it's dead, I'll be returning it. I've only had the product for a week. For the cost, a light intensity adjustment would be nice, as well as caulk, which they tell you after you open the box is "sold separately". April 27, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't be taken by led. Stay Away. Few days after installation over my garage door, started noticing abnormal behavior. Light coming on during the day when it was sunny and bright. Other times at night, it would not come on at all despite of waving my arms in front of the motion sensor. Called up Customer service. They asked me if I know if anything is on the same circuit. How the heck would I know? I am not an electrical contractor who wired this house. Then he indicated that LEDs are highly temperamental and do not function correctly when some other device is on the same circuit. They should have put this warning on the package. April 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, beets replacing bulbs all the time Great product, plenty of light. No bulb replacement. The motion detector is a little too sensitive. The PIR motion detector does not have a threshold adjust. I find most PIR detectors need a Collimeter anyway. If it trips too much and you have tried positioning and still it seems to sensitive, just reduce the field by using black electrical tape. This is often needed even on systems that do have a threshold adjust. If you are tired of the lamp contacts failing on Halogen lamps due to heat, which will burn halogen lamps quicker than oil from your hands. Then use an LED product. Much less energy for more light output. March 16, 2013
