Answer:
The basic reason is because the lights themselves will block the "view" of the motion sensor. It will still work "upside" down, but the "coverage" of the sensor won't work as well.

In my experience the situation that you describe does not belong to the product. Check your ground wire, this unit has a ground capability that needs a clean ground (not rusted):;to complete the circuit. Caution! if you do not have any experience with electrical matters, by all means, call a certified electrician to get the job done safe and proper. ... WOOD.

I'm not sure but I think at least one of your lights and maybe both have what is called dual lighting feature, This feature is controlled by the sliding switch on the bottom of the motion detector. You will see one of the selections as Dim. This feature allows for lower light unless motion is detected. If you do not want this feature move the sliding switch off of Dim. Why one light is doing this and not the other makes me think that they are either different models lights or the sliding switch is in a different position. If you still have your manuals you should see this explanation. Hope this helps Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value It took my handy man less than 5 minutes to install and adjust the angle. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Installation - Does the Job Bought this to replace malfunctioning 8 year old fixture. I wanted to use regular bulbs instead of the tube type bulbs. Easy installation. Put white with white wire and black with black wire, hook up ground and you are good to go. They even include a little plastic strip to hold the unit while you are connecting the wires. Everything included, except the bulbs, and the caulk they recommend putting around the unit and the base. Easy test. Once you get have the sensor where you want it. You are done. July 7, 2016

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Worked well for about a month. Now it doesn't work at all. I haven't had a chance to get up on a ladder to see if I can get it to work. Easy to assemble, and worked good for a month. Now it isn't working. I haven't had a chance to climb a ladder to see what is wrong. June 29, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product Fits nice but had to get bigger screws for the install Ken June 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Light Fair Price This is a basic motion security light. It installed easily into my existing junction box. It is made largely of plastic and is therefore lighter than the similar one I was replacing. It has all of the features I need. The manual is marked with the model number DF-5412-WH-E and states that it can handle two 150 watt incandescent bulbs. The box is marked with model number DFI-5412-WH and states it can handle two 120 watt incandescent bulbs. I do not know which one is correct so one may want to take this into consideration when purchasing bulbs for the unit. The UPC code on my box is 016963754126. May 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by like the white ~ blends in with the trim ~ unlike the old one that was black Happy with it as it works fine and looks a ton better than the black one it replaced. April 28, 2016
