Answer:
Had the fixture for a couple of months, setup to trip by motion at night, and so far have not had to change the light "bulb", so I cannot say how or what is entailed in replacing the bulb. The instructions were well written and the professional I worked with to do the install found the unit remarkably well designed and easy to install and maintain.

The bulbs are not replaceable, but are expected to last approximately 20 years. I purchased and installed 2 of these lights and within less than a year condensation caused both lights to fail. They are guaranteed so save your receipts and packaging materials.

I also would not install the unit facing in the direction of the southern sun; internal parts can heat up and crack. Read Less

mounting to the underside of an eave? we mounted our lights by running conduit along our flat roof up to the flashing and placed the box onto the top of the flashing. The light appears to be able to be mounted upside down from under an eave - as long as you have a box to mount to. The installation to the box was easy.

They have to go back, unfortunately, when they do light up, they work well, but its crazy, none work the same, stay on the same, and all are set uniformly. I'm going to Lowes to buy better ones and hopefully they work.

I am a consumer just like you Ellie. If you bought a bunch of them from the same store and they all failed - then you need to go to the store where you bought them and ask them this question. The actual install expense, for me, was to run all the power to the location where I wanted them stationed.
It was easier for me to remove the fixtures and replace, and gain the warranty of NEW.
Good luck

Hi Ellie.
Thank you for your question.

To activate the manual mode you will need to switch the light off at the switch for 1-3 seconds and then back on again. This should activate the light, but it will only work at night.
This feature only works once each night and cannot be repeated, i.e. you cannot turn the light off and on repeatedly like a regular yard light.
If the power to the light is off for to the light more than 5 seconds, you will need to allow the motion sensor to warm up prior to switching to the manual mode.
To switch back to the automatic mode and turn the manual mode off, switch the light of for 1-3 seconds and then on again.

Light is on a dedicated circuit. Light began to switch from strobing to constant over time and after turning the power off and on a few times. Now it strobes constantly. Is there a ballast in this unit that may be bad?

Answer:
The sensors control the light. You set the sensors. I believe "ballasts" only are used with flourescent light fixtures. If it were me I would return and replace the fixture immediately. One of our units acted similar to your description within a few weeks - we replaced it and the new unit has been working for months without failure.

I've had three of these light that failed because condensation formed in the ballast. I'm guessing that there is a problem with the design of the product. Home Depot seems not to be restocking them and they are no longer available on line. If you still have your receipt, return the light to the store if purchased within the last 90 days. Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 132 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Much Better than Incandescent Flood Lights The perimeter incandescent flood lights on my home are inefficient and provide poor lighting. I chose to update the lighting and decided on the Defiant White LED Switch Light. I have been very impressed with the light output and uniform brightness throughout the coverage area. The Defiant LED Switch Light puts out 2350 Lumens and uses only 26.12 watts. Installation was very easy and adjustment of the lamps is tool-less and provides a seamless lighting pattern, with no dark spots. After being installed over a month, I have been quite impressed with both the light output and uniform lighting it provides. I also plan on installing additional Defiant LED Security Lights in the future. Highly Recommended!! July 20, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Except for Very Limited Installation Options This LED security light provides an even wash of bright light across a very wide area. The motion sensor works great, and the dual bright function provides a little bit of light to see without any motion being detected. For how great this light is to use, getting it installed is quite the challenge. First, the included manual had conflicting statements about eve mounting, stating in once place that eve mounting was not allowed and then providing instructions for eve mounting in another. This was corrected in an updated version that is now provided on the current product page, but caused some initial confusion because eve mounting was my only option. The second challenge in replacing an existing light is the clearance required around the mounting box. I was not able to install where I had planned because I was not able to move the box and there was not enough clearance from the exterior wall to connect the light to the mounting base after all the connections had been made. Even shifting the base forward away from the wall with an adjustable plate could not provide the necessary clearance. There is no flexibility in the orientation of the mounting base so you must have at least 2” of clearance from the rear edge of the mounting box to the wall in order to successfully eve mount. The concept of the mounting base where the connections are made with the base already attached to the mounting box before having to lift the fixture makes this much easier to install than most lights if finding a location is not an issue. And once installed, the light is easy to configure and pleasant to use. May 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Home defense LED security light Very easy to install - was replacing a proprietary CFL Lights of America fixture where the ballast had died after two years of use. CFL lights are junk anyway, proprietary or not. LEDs are becoming better every day and this fixture is a prime example. The best part was the ease of installation - watch the Home Depot video for illustration. All light fixtures should install like this one. The fixture itself looks great and is SUPER bright - the 2000+ lumens is no joke. The motion detection is also excellent - it can adjust to your sensitivity needs. There is also a dusk to dawn feature that I was not aware of before I purchased - added bonus! May 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Regrets You may be turned of by the price, as I was, but once it's installed you should have no regrets. This is by far the easiest light I've ever installed both interior and exterior. I started to install the first light (yes, I bought a second one) at dusk. It was ready to go by dark! A very practical and well thought out design. The first light has been going strong for a year, and still looks great! There have been no problems with the second light thus far. There have been no false triggers by rain or wind, and no more replacing blown bulbs! One note: instructions were missing from the packaging, however they were easilly downloaded from Home Depot's website. Images show 58' of lighted area. July 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bright and easy Even for a weekend amateur, this light was extremely easy to install (replacing an old fixture). There are several settings for various levels of sensitivity and time for the light to come on and stay lighted. Very easy to understand and adjust. The light it gives off is extremely bright. I would have rated the appearance excellent except for the very bright but "cool" tone of the LED lights. If you're looking for a warm "welcome home, honey" kind of feel, this is not the way to go. But if you're looking for an energy-efficient security light that makes your home feel safer, this light is a great value and highly recommended. November 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Lights EVER! Run to the store to get these lights. Run right now! The picture displayed indicates a low light LED, but trust me, its far from it. Pictures does not do justice. The Sensor is amazing, quality is impeccable and light distance is incredible. Well worth the price. My Neighbors are asking where I bought these lights. Read every ones review, its nearly 5 star perfect. These lights are so great, you should suggest paying more for them (LOL). Easy install, clean look, super bright lights. Just copy paste everyone's review and paste here. September 25, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by looks great, lot of light, low energy costa The install was a bit more complicated than described because there were only wires sticking out of the outside wall & I wanted the light to be moved up 1 shingle so it would be parallel with the top of the garage doors. Once I worked thru these issues with a mounting block and extending the wires,, the rest was a breeze. This light replaced a dual 150/300w halogen fixture. There is no comparison. The low beam setting gives off more light to a much greater area than the former halogen. It's a true 180 degree cast of light. When the sensor picks up something the estimated lumen output increases about 25%. November 18, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Buy the extended warranty! Bought two of these and loved them! Expensive, but seemingly worth it. BUT I had a minor power surge that did no other damage in the house. It blew out both of the security lights. Of course, I did NOT have the extended warranty. Not sure whether I'm going to replace with the same ones or not. February 23, 2016
