CFL compatible

I assume this is the same as the Defiant DF 5716? Same number as the model listed, e.g DF 5716. Nowhere on the box did this thing say it wasn't to be used on the same circuit as a florescent light, motor or dimmer. Fine, no motor, no dimmer, but I am using a CFL. Are they talking about 4' florescent lights with external ballasts or does this include 13 Watt CFLs too? The troubleshooting guide, under "Light stays on", mentioned the CFL. Had I only known.

Answer:
I doubt the capability of most controllers to consistently dim CFL's. Even the newest dimmable CFL's are problematic as reviewed by other consumers. Since this controller is of legacy design, I would stick with incandescent or halogen. That's what I have in my security lighting. They're no problem at any operating temperature either.

leslie,
We have reached out to the vendor about your question, and this is their response to you "Yes, we do have this in black. It is a new item that we are just now rolling out into the stores in Defiant packaging. It will not be available online until mid-May."

Does this unit work with Heath/Zenith motion sensor light control model SL - 5597?

The red pilot light on the sensor head which used to be on is now off. I tried changing the positions of the control switches at the bottom of the sensor but they don't respond and neither light turns on. I think the sensor is bad, can I replace it with this unit? Thank you.

Answer:
You can use this on any fixture as long as the place for the sensor to attach is 1/2 in diameter and less than 300 watts total.

Answer:
Hey Benny,
This motion sensor replacement is hard-wired into the fixture outdoors. It is meant as a replacement for it, but it does not install with any other device.
If this 'receiver' as you say is a standard toggle or rocker switch, then it will work with it, but the switch would override the light itself.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mind Of Its Own 2.0 FIXED IT !!!!! I wrote the original Mind Of Its Own review stating my dissatisfaction with this unit. Next time you're in Home Depot pull one out of the box and look at all the options on the underside. Switches galore to create all kinds of tricks with the your lighting. This is where the problem originates - there's just too many options. KISS rule was violated and now consumers pay the price. As we approach yet another winter I could see my security lights were going to be on from dusk 'til dawn despite any settings. The false positives with this unit exacerbate with winter weather. Over the summer I searched Ebay for a vintage unit. The older units have one switch for OFF / TIME ON / TEST and Sensitivity dial. I swapped the units and end of problem. The lights remain off unless I walk into the sensor field. Success. December 11, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of money! Dont buy No matter what I did it wouldnt stop flashing. I tried all the settings and even in test mode it still flashed continuously. January 3, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great I don't get the complaints. This is the best motion sensor I've ever had. I especially like the two zone feature. November 13, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't bother Seems like this identical item is sold by both Home Depot and Lowes (just packaged with different names on the box). The one I bought at Home Depot was labeled "Defiant". I had to hire an electrician to install this sensor due to the fixture location. He warned me that he had gotten a lot of bad feedback about this brand. I should have listened to him. The sensor worked great for a day or two, but after that, forget about the motion and variable on time settings. It's off during the daytime and it stays on all night. The motion feature doesn't work at all. Apparently, this is a case where inexpensive didn't work out. March 23, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Awful Bought this motion detector as a replacement for my Zenith floodlight. Light still works but sensor was failing. Sensor worked for a couple days then it decided to come on when no motion was there. Changed setting from 5 mins to 1 min and it would stay on all night. Moved sensor more downward and adjusted sensitivity, which worked a couple days then back to staying on all night! Currently looking for another floodlight altogether and definitely not a Defiant brand. Cheap junk from China fails again! May 26, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked Just Fine For Me Installed one of these on an a traditional, outdoor flood light. It has worked fine ever since installation; a good 6 months so far. It has made it a harsh winter that included a terrible blizzard. The only thing that I have to note is that I feel it is a touch sensitive. I have the sensistivity turned down all the way and it will be triggered with so much as a cat walking by at a distance of 20 feet away. Nonetheless, this unit works for me and I'm about to buy a second one to replace on a different light. May 9, 2015
