Answer:
Decrease the sensitivity, A good sensor will have a sensitivity adjustment. Reason being without one. The pre set would be set to the max and will pick up anything that moves from the wind.
If that doesn't work. You have a bad sensor.

Answer:
If you read the instructions, you discover that this problem occurs if the sensor is on the same circuit as a motor or a fluorescent light. The manufacturer didn't consider that customers might place this sensor of a circuit with a garage door opener!

Answer:
If this sensor came already with the rest of the light sockets in the fixture when you purchased it, simply turn the light switch controlling it two times rapidly, and that will turn the motion sensor on, and the photocell off.
Also, make sure all the switches on the sensor head itself are turned on and in good working order as well.

There is nothing on the box or information from Defiant about LED lights. However, it will not work with LED lights. Unsure why. Maybe because there is no load.

Light Stays On after 5 min setting

This question is from 270 Degree White Replacement Outdoor Motion Sensor

The original installation went well and the sensor worked as designed with setting set per instructions. Later, one of the two bulbs burned out but the other light stayed on. I replaced the bad bulb and the unit lights still stayed on. I had to run the circuit off. Any suggestions what's doing this after it had been working fine., bad unit maybe, under two year mfg warranty.

Answer:
To much sensitivity. Needs to be turned down. If your sensor doesn't have that adjustment. Replace with one that has. Because every time wind blows it will sent it off.
Lastly, you could have a bad sensor. A way to check it is by blocking the sensor. Maybe duck tape over the sensor. That should allow it to time out and shut off. If your light goes out the sensor is good.
It's then your sensitivity.

Added note:
After one year of operation, a few things noted from Defiant on this device:
1) Should turn off circuit before changing a bulb.
2) I tried to reset it by turning circuit off and on, a couple times and resetting the settings
3) Unit appears to have failed and needs to be replaced
4) Am requesting another unit under the 2 year warranty

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great. Installed quickly per instructions which were simple and straightforward. Works perfectly so far. July 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works for a while Installed this unite to use in turning on and off my outdoor fountain when people came in that area. Worked fine for about 2 years now it stays on all the time and I cannot get it to shut off. I have had motion sensors in the past and they all seem to not function well after a year or two so I will buy another and hope it last longer. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High quality replacement sensor that is easy to install One of my motion control lights stopped working after a few years. I went to Home Depot and thought about replacing the entire light. I bought my light several years ago and it has a metal base. When I looked at the motion control lights, I could get one with a plastic base for what I originally paid or I could get one with a metal base that was double the cost. Plus, the lights that they have now have a different mounting pattern. That would have been a hassle to install. I noticed that I could get a replacement sensor for less money than buying the light. My light was in great shape so it didn't need to be replaced. I bought the replacement sensor. I removed the light and replaced the sensor. It only took about 30 minutes to an hour to remove the light, replace the sensor, and reinstall the light. It was very easy. The light now functions perfectly. It has been a few weeks and it seems to work well. It appears to be a high quality replacement. If you have an outside light that stops working, it is most likely the sensor unit. If your light is still in good shape, just buy the replacement sensor. January 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not 100% but good. This is the same sensor as on the DF-5718 motion lamp, which I have also installed. Both are made by Heath-Zenith for Home Depot. I purchased it to replace an older sensor that was not sufficiently sensitive to motion. I am using old school bulbs in all the units. I like the dual-bright and bulb saver settings, though I think the dim setting should be a bit lower in brightness. For the problem some reported of the light staying on in the morning, or coming on too soon, these are not especially light sensitive, so do not aim them too far down if they are in a shady spot under the eaves. If that doesn't work, try the 6 hour setting instead of dusk-to-dawn. For those who can't seem to get them to work at all, make sure you have a ground connection. I hope PAR and "filament" LED bulbs will become more stable for outdoor use (winter) because I prefer that look. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by replacement sensor This sensor was the same style as the initially one so installation was simply just a matter of removing the old sensor, undoing the wire connections and swapping them out. We are hoping the replacement will continue to meet our needs, June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by May not work, check bulb types. Will not work with 13 Watt Compact Fluorescent (GX23) bulbs. Works with standard filament type bulbs. Don't know about others (LED). Seems to need a certain amount of start up current to function. If it was designed this way wish they would put this info on the outside of the box for customers. I found some of the recommended bulb type info on this website. Doesn't help when you're in the store looking at product. HD how about carrying a decent replacement motion sensor that works with all bulb types. June 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by dont buy this product it does not work properly its stay on and does not go off at night May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good deal It performs as expected, was easy to install, and is priced right. March 30, 2016
