This is a pretty good light. VERY bright and seems well built. It dosnt on say the packaging... but it is waterproof. Its sealed and I tested it. It has a Cree XML emitter on top of some pretty decent heat sinks. It has a simple on-off button, none of that multi-mode junk other manufacturers offer.
I bought one on a whim to see how it was, ended up buying two more the same day.

Great light. Better than expected.
1. the intensity of the LED. Very bright.
I took it outside last night and from my front my driver's seat in my vehicle I shined it against garage door.
The 550 Lumen was "brighter" than my low beam lights.
2. the "whiteness" of the light is very good. Almost purely white. Just a slight amount of yellow.
(yellowishness normally occurs ewith cheaper LED lights, like the retrofit kits).
The chassis is very sturdy and solid feeling.
4. Battery cost/type
Uses 3 of the "C" cell batteries.
While not the cheapest out there, it surely beats those "specialty" types of batteries on both price-to-replace and availability )
1. while it is focused quite well, there does not seem to be much (if any) way to adjust the sharpness/focus of the light beam.
I am going back to HD to get a get a couple more for Christmas presents.
I WAS going to give maglites from the black friday sale at lowes ($14.97 for a 2D cell) but I will be returning the maglites
I'll be buying these Defiants to use as my gifts instead.
2 thjumbs up ! !

I am a flashlight junkie. This is a great flashlight. Most 500+ lumen flashlights use the expensive "123" batteries. This uses cheap "C" cell batteries. Brightest is great at 550 lumens. Best of all it only has one mode. On/Off. Most other 500+ lumens flashlights have a bunch of modes which makes it a chore to turn on and off. I paid over $50 for my last 500+ flashlight. At $20 I'm on my way back to buy another.

I own many LED flashlights, ranging from a very small, one-battery pocket light with around 40 lumens, and a U.S. Army shirt-pocket light with the same lumens, on up through small and large LED lights of various major manufacturers, the membership-store LED flashlights, and several others. This one really kicks butt. I took it into the woods adjoining my house and it lit up the area almost like the noon sun. It has many times the brightness of my 5-cell conventional flashlight and is far brighter than my other three-cell C and D-battery LED flashlights. After trying one last week, I went back and got 2 more. Two years ago, a light like this would have run well into the $100-and-up range. BTW, I dropped it onto concrete by accident (soapy hands) and it still works fine. Another real test will be to see if I can get the four hours run time stated on the package. If so, this is one heck of a bargain--worth carrying in cars, next to one's bed, and for general home/garage/camping use, etc.

I've been buying well reviewed LED flashlights for awhile, typically in the 150-220 lumen range, running off two AA or three AAA batteries. It's amazing how bright they are. When I saw this on Black Friday as 550 lumen for $20 I thought it must be a real tall tale. Well this thing lit up the woods in my backyard way beyond what my impressive 220 lumen light does. It may or may not be 550, but it is incredible. It's in solid metal case - quite substantial. I went back and bought two more.
