Customer Questions & Answers

If I loose the key can I purchase the key alone or would I need to purchase a whole new knob again?

Asked by: Jn88
If you lose the key or keys (as they generally come with two key), I don't think you would be able to order just the key. I am not sure though. This would be a question for the manufacturer. It would be best to call the help-line of the manufacturer to find out if they offer this as an option to lost keys. More than likely they could send a device that would allow you to re-key the existing lock set. This may be a security issue as well though. I would recommend purchasing a new lock set as these are very inexpensive lock sets. Regards, Steve

What is the pinhole on the side of the key handle for? Is this safe enough for the front door of the house?

The item description says, "This knob is most effective for exterior doors where keyed entry and security is needed." What is the pinhole on the side of the key handle for? Can I use this for the front door of the house?
Asked by: EricT
This more than likely is a feature that is used to enable the owner to re-key the lock set with a different key. This is useful when you have several lock sets that you would like to be able to use the same key for. The lock set that you purchased probably came with a tool and instructions to perform this. can I use this for a security door?

Asked by: rob
Rob, I personally wouldn't. This is a lighter weight unit. I believe this would be fine if used along with a secondary deadbolt unit. I installed my unit on the door coming from the garage into the mud room and just wanted the ability to lock it if I wanted to. jtzes

Can we get a locking knob for the front door that is located about 5 inches from the door edge?

Our door has the hole for the lock about 5 inches from the door edge, normally 2.5 The old one has the rod/plunger longer, two-part, with an extension. We do not want to have to drill another hole, closer to the edge.
Asked by: Zdene
You can order the 5" locking cylinder from Defient lock company. This item is not stocked by the local Home Depot. This is common for our area in Florida. JimmyD

The doorknob was actually a replacement for an interior garage door that we could not locate the key for. The Defiant doorknob was a good choice with no issues with installation. We choice this one for style, color and we found it to be of good quality without breaking the bank. Would purchase again for other doors.

I noticed right away after installing but I decided to deal with it since it was only for the in-law. After about 6 months of having it installed I finally am forced to replace it. You have to hold the knob in place while you turn the interior lock. Something inside the unit is beginning to fail. Door is used twice a day. Buy a better one, spend the money.

I can't believe I'm writing a review about a doorknob, but this one is the bee's knees! The finish is very nice and it looks like it cost far more than it did. The antique brass color and shape of the knob works really well in our mid-century house. We bought 15 of these to replace all the mismatched doorknobs in our house and I'm well pleased.

When I brought it home I found out the door had dropped. I have the same lock already in the door and it still works FINE after all these years. I just never returned the unopen lock. AND I DO KNOW YOU TAKE RETURNS!! Because I have returned a lot of things over the years :)

I was replacing an existing door knob so I didn't have to do any of the drilling that can go along with a new door knob but all the templates to do so were included. The unit was the most affordable of what HD had in stock and also the largest knob which is what attracted me the most. Worth the $10.00 spent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for ENTRY like stated Liked the product. BUT I bought four for bedroom and bathroom doors in my house and after installing the knobs I found out that they all can be unlocked by the same key. Wanted more privacy than that. Watch out if you are buying one for your entry doors--someone out there may have a key to fit it BEWARE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome buy I was skeptical about making this purchase but I'm glad I did. I bought for my bedroom to keep my kids out while I'm away from home and thought that they would be able to get in with a knife. I'm relived they can't now when I come home my remote control is exactly where I left it.

At first, it appeared there would be some wood chiseling to place the plates on where the old knob/latch did not have one, but the design of this knob/latch system allowed the flexibility of having the plate or not.
