Customer Questions & Answers

If I loose the key can I purchase the key alone or would I need to purchase a whole new knob again?

Asked by: Jn88
If you lose the key or keys (as they generally come with two key), I don't think you would be able to order just the key. I am not sure though. This would be a question for the manufacturer. It would be best to call the help-line of the manufacturer to find out if they offer this as an option to lost keys. More than likely they could send a device that would allow you to re-key the existing lock set. This may be a security issue as well though. I would recommend purchasing a new lock set as these are very inexpensive lock sets. Regards, Steve

What is the pinhole on the side of the key handle for? Is this safe enough for the front door of the house?

The item description says, "This knob is most effective for exterior doors where keyed entry and security is needed." What is the pinhole on the side of the key handle for? Can I use this for the front door of the house?
Asked by: EricT
This more than likely is a feature that is used to enable the owner to re-key the lock set with a different key. This is useful when you have several lock sets that you would like to be able to use the same key for. The lock set that you purchased probably came with a tool and instructions to perform this. can I use this for a security door?

Asked by: rob
Rob, I personally wouldn't. This is a lighter weight unit. I believe this would be fine if used along with a secondary deadbolt unit. I installed my unit on the door coming from the garage into the mud room and just wanted the ability to lock it if I wanted to. jtzes

Can we get a locking knob for the front door that is located about 5 inches from the door edge?

Our door has the hole for the lock about 5 inches from the door edge, normally 2.5 The old one has the rod/plunger longer, two-part, with an extension. We do not want to have to drill another hole, closer to the edge.
Asked by: Zdene
You can order the 5" locking cylinder from Defient lock company. This item is not stocked by the local Home Depot. This is common for our area in Florida. JimmyD
