YLPT-43: Are both lights supposed to be green?

Protected light is red and grounded light is green. Does red light labeled protected mean that the surge protector is no longer protecting for surges?
Asked by: Inverterman
If the protected light is "on" then it's protected. It's either on...or off. The color means nothing. The color red isn't always bad, and the color green isn't always good - that's just what we're used to.

Surge 8 ft. Cord 45 Degree Angle Flat 6-Outlet Plug - White is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you need a surge suppressor - multi outlet- this is a good one. Easy choice if you want a multi-outlet plug. I like the added 2' over the typical 6 foot cord. I like the 45 degree flat plug for lots of reasons like clean installation and more plug options around transformer like plugs and ability to push furniture closer to the wall around this plug. I think the only thing I want changed are the very bright status lights- I put this in a bedroom and the furniture looks like its glowing at night. Some black electrical tape over the lights should help if I wanted to dim the status lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed to hook up all computer and... Just what I needed to hook up all computer and printer cables and still reach the outlet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ignore the previous negative reviews I purchased this despite the two negative reviews at the time on this product, because neither review mentions anything relevant to the quality/price/etc. That said, if you're reading this, you also need a power strip with a low profile plug for an area with a tight fit. Mine is plugged in behind a cabinet that is positioned flush against the base and shoe molding. Once plugged in, 3/4 inch (1.8 mm) is the maximum that protrudes outward. Concerning the two lights, one is green for Grounded and the amber/red is for Protected. I have a lamp, fan and cordless phone plugged into it, so a "Protected" status is not a concern for me. But if you're using it for computers or other sensitive equipment, you probably shouldn't be trusting a $13 power strip for active surge protection. Just saying... As for value, the store named after a rain forest is almost always cheaper, but I needed it now. I have much cheaper power strips that have lasted well over 5-6 years, so I expect nothing less with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from teardown These work great; but after getting two of these, one with a green "protected" LED and one with a red LED, and no instructions to be found, it was time to tear this thing down and see what's what. So both LEDs are single color type. The "protected" LED is simply a power indicator, and apparently they simply put green LEDs in some and red/amber LEDs in others. There is surge suppression circuitry present, but the LED gives no indication if it's good or not. The "grounded" LED is connected to a ground detection circuit, so that it lights up only if the ground is good. tl;dr... "Protected" = power on, "Grounded" = good ground, and the LED colors don't matter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product First let me tell you about the lights lol JK (read other reviews, its kinda comical). This is a great product from what I can tell, the cord and outer rubber protection feels like a higher quality than most cords on power strips / surge protectors that I've come across. The cord is very long like I needed (8 FT. as compared to most cords 2-3 ft.) and the main base lights makes perfect sense to me (lights on it works, light off it doesn't). I've plugged a related product into a non-grounded outlet and the grounded light went off after a small "pop", now I know that outlet wasn't grounded.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Power strip with surge protection This is a good power strip that plugs into the wall using a plug in that goes flat into the wall which gives you more space if you put it behind a desk or another piece of furniture. The surge protection component is always nice to have no matter what you plug into it. The 8 ft length allows you the extra distance you might need no matter how far away the wall outlet it from where you need it. I am very pleased with the item.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from More Chinese Made Junk with no real quality contol Home depot, stop buying garbage from China unless you verify the quality of the stuff you buy. At least do some random testing on each product to see if it's even close to the specification stated on the package. The product packaging states it's rated for 15 amps. It's not even close. Mine keeps tripping at 8 to 9 amps. This might be a great product for a couple of lamps, but for anything critical, it's useless! Have some pride in what you sell. Stop selling us garbage!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Grounded? Protected? Please explain. Wow, I can't believe this. I came onto this page in search of an explanation of what the two lights mean on the device - "Grounded" and "Protected." And I found that other people have complained about this exact problem. What a pain. The company needs to do a better job of demystifying these terms for lay people. The device packaging doesn't tell you anything either.
