Rated 5 out of 5Â by James Found the Cat Urine!
Recently bought a house and was FREAKING out about the smell. I figured out it was cat spray... and knew i needed to address it... but where to start???? I had no idea where to look, i never owned a cat. I looked up online how blacklights could I.D. the spots but was skeptical that it would actually work.... Then i heard it had to be a specific wavelength of blacklight blah blah blah... Anyways, i got up one morning, zipped to the Depot and picked this up. It worked REALLY well. Newer stain looked like somebody poured glow paint on the carpet. Older stains (even those that had been "cleaned up") were fainter, but still noticeable. I now know where to focus my efforts.... outside of hating cats.

Great flashlight to use when marking items with a UV marker to make tools easy to identify in case of theft.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by ScorpFinder Great for finding scorpions
I bought 2 of these for finding scorpions. I've had them for nearly a year now and I am very pleased with them. They produce a small amount of visible light along with the UV and this is a plus, because in very dark areas, it affords a small degree of visibility. This flaslight does a great job in finding scorpions as well as pet urin. Scorpions stand out without a doubt at a relatively long distance (easily 20 feet if it is very dark). The only complaint I have is that the battery life is short. I generally replace them after about an hour of use to maintain good brightness. This is a very good product for spotting scorpions. I am buying 2 more to stage in other areas in my house.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Vincenzo25 Piffy and very limited UV light.
I bought this UV light to help me illuminate things that I otherwise wouldn't be able to see in normal light. To that end it is only about 20% effective at doing so. One of the things I wanted it to help me identify was dog urine and other excretions left on the floor so I can more effectively clean them up. In this application, this light is pretty useless. Not only is it too dim to do any good, but I'm in agreement with other reviews and articles I've read that UV wave length has a huge part to play in the effectiveness of the light output overall. I've noticed that this light, because of its unknown spectrum output, is pretty poor at highlighting anything but the blatantly obvious like white and iridescent objects and the occasional water stain. (Did help show the water stains on the roof from some major water leaks.) This light simply doesn't appear to be bright enough or emit the proper light spectrum to be more applicable across a wider range of identifiable stains.
To compare and see if this light was accurate; I bought a somewhat comparable CFL black light which I had exceedingly great success with. Not only did it highlight everything the little UV LED flashlight failed to see, but it also highlighted the few things the UV flashlight did just 10X better. I was able to see all of the urine stains on the carpet and realized that not a single one of the chemicals that I have labeled as carpet cleaning agents have been doing squat to clean up the stains. I was also able to see the most recent and newest additions which I was shocked about since we had given the culprits back to their owner months ago and gotten a new dog. We thought she was doing great but it turns out she's been peeing on our clothing judging by the luminosity of the stains, it was easy to tell they were quite recent.
This product clearly needs some more research and work not to mention significantly greater luminosity. If all you're looking for is something to party with than this could kind of do the job but don't expect much beyond 10 feet.
Overall I was very disappointed with this light as it's the first flashlight I've bought in years that I actually returned for failing to perform.
