My 35 year-old Sears opener mechanism still works but the remote has finally died. This was the perfect replacement. While the self-perforating wire clip didn't work, it was simple to strip the wires and connect to the push button terminals on the opener mechanism. Programming was simple. If there was any "con", it's that it comes with a single fob. If that's an issue, buy a second one for the fob only. At $20 you can't beat the price. The manufacturer warns that you may need a 12 volt transformer for older units. My opener is definitely an "older" unit and the push button terminals say '24 volts' but I didn't need the 12 volt transformer.

My new house had an ancient Sears (not Craftsman, SEARS! Late 70s, by the looks) garage door opener with no remote, but it still worked fine, and I didn't want to replace it. After a litle research, found out that the old Sears unit didn't even have the old DIP switches, which most universal remotes have to communicate with older units.. Went to my local store and the knowledgeable dude pointed me toward this baby. Installs in seconds (assuming the wires to your existing open/close push button in your garage are accessible) and works great. Both receiver and remote transmitter are small and look nice. Each remote transmitter can be programmed to open three separate doors. At $20, you can't go wrong. Range is great, it works over 100 ft away at the base of my driveway. I am going back to get a second one for the other garage bay where my wife parks. That one already had a remote, but this way we both can have a remote to open BOTH doors, and we can keep our old one as a spare.

I have an old Genie garage door opener. While in store an associate went out of his way to pull up this product for me online. If you have an older garage door opener like mine you will also need the adapter plug in. I didn't realize this until after I bought it. This is a powered switch. I was frustrated because it didn't work I read the trouble shooting directions and WHALA!. So instead of paying for shipping again I simply ordered the part and Picked it up in store. Another great thing Home Depot offers! Now I can go in and out the garage with ease! It has a "learn" button on it so I bet It can be used with other remotes as well

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Trene Great Replacement Remote - Fast & Easy Install!!!
My new lease had a garage door opener, but didn't have a remote. The realty company wouldn't provide one either, they said people never returned them.... Which is what I thought the deposit was for!!! I researched remotes but didn't want to spend a fortune on one, I didn't know if I would ever have a Genie Garage Door Opener again if I moved. I found this one and for $20!! I kept putting off the install thinking it would be difficult, I had never even programmed a remote! This was literally the easiest and quickest install EVER!! Works great! I am a single female in my mid 40's and I was able to take care of this myself!

Warning: If you have an older model garage door opener like I do you may have to purchase the 12v charger separately. I found this out after setting up the unit and getting no response from the remote. Once I received the charger I still had some issues, however the people at the help desk were extremely helpful and we figured out the issue. Had to cut off the end piece and wire directly to my garage door button (not difficult, even for beginners) Now it works effectively and I can enter through the garage instead of having to walk around the front of my house!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dee Best purchase from Home Depot I ever made.
I had read the reviews about ease of installation. I am 70, female and, in the past, been very handy. Now however, I cannot climb a ladder, so could not get to garage opener on ceiling. Would have completed installation in less than five minutes but standing is a problem. it took me fifteen but the ease is unbelievable. I would recommend this to anyone.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RF Perfect for my old opener!
I've got 2 "vintage" Genie garage door openers (circa '92). I needed a much smaller remote to attach to the visor of my new car. It didn't come with car controlled buttons and the old remote was huge, so I found this one and hoped for the best. I ran into a number of problems initially. My opener had 4 wires going to the wall switch (not 2) so I had to figure out which ones controlled the opening/closing of the door. Then after alligator clipping my connections together.....it didn't work. I called SkyLink (which makes this under the Defiant name) and they told me it would need the transformer. It arrived today and I hooked it up. Perfect!
Works like a charm and I do not have any problems with the range as some posters mentioned. It works at least as far as the original remotes. Note: I connected the receiver to the motor unit and not the wall switch (which puts the antenna closer to the car as you approach).

This worked on my 1970's Sears garage door opener. No additional parts needed. Easy installation and works very well.
