The starter plant was from a small liner and as they grow many offshoots and new growing points develop. It can be a little tricky to propagate from the runners but you can remove individually and plant in a 2” size pot initially to establish roots and then plant to a larger container after they fully root in. Another option is to divide the basket into quarters by gingerly separating the existing plant and root ball. If you try this method you will need to prune off ½ the height of the fern fronds before dividing. It will normally take 3 to 4 moths for the divisions to re-root and grow out. Use a good quality potting soil formulated for house plants or foliage for either option. Maintain good soil moisture and bright indirect or filtered light levels. Avoid overly drying and also soggy soil moisture conditions.

This fern comes in a white plastic hanger with 3 plastic rods and a S shaped plastic hook. I beleive it is 10 inches wide you can easily cut off the plastic rods and place in a nicer hanger if you wanted.

Customer Reviews

Boston Fern in 10 in. Hanging Basket is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Fern + Fast Delivery The delivery was very fast, and the fern was neatly packed. When I got it out, it felt as though it had just been watered. Sometimes when ordering plants online they seem on the verge of death when they finally get to you, and that was not the case here. It was definitely smaller than the picture shown in the bedroom for scale, but it worked perfectly for our indoor space. Overall, I was super pleased with the quality of the plant and the quality and speed of delivery. I've had the fern for a little over a month now, and it seems to be thriving.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just OK While it arrived quick and with no damage I really expected it to be fuller and in better health. I have ordered many plants from HD and this one did not meet my expectations. It is alive and it will fill out, but I was hoping it would be as beautiful as the picture upon arrival

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful plant, a bit difficult to care for This fern is beautiful, and has a good effect on the air quality of the room. However, it is a bit difficult to care for. Many of the leaves are falling off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but came with mealy bugs These ferns were surprisingly beautiful when I opened them, so lush and green but I couldn't understand why the new fronds wouldn't open, on the first warm day we had here in Seattle, I set them out on my north facing deck, it was very warm and humid. Shortly thereafter I noticed the mealy bugs that looked like cotton in the fronds that hadn't opened and also going down the fronds on all three I purchased. I don't have a house full of house plants so I don't know where they would have come from. It is unfortunate, I heard this could happen with nursery plants. I am not sure how I am going to treat them. Perhaps diatamaceous earth or insecticide, I just hope the plants don't die or look super ratty when I am done treating them. I don't know why the nursery doesn't spray them or control the population or something. It's super disappointing. I would attach a photo but I already went to town snipping off the affected fronds.
